Oscar® nominee Majid Majidi (Children Of Heaven, Best Foreign Language Film 1998) explores the world of a gifted blind boy at the mercy of his father's crippling sense of shame. Mohammad (Mohsen Ramezani) is an energetic 8-year-old who is much like the other children in his small Iranian village except in one regard: he is blind. But Mohammad's heightened remaining senses make him even more receptive to the world around him. His optimism, however, is not shared by his widower father (Hossein Mahjub), a bitter man who sees the boy's condition as a liability, especially as it pertains to his desire to marry the village beauty. Dad plans to farm out the boy to apprentice to a blind carpenter far away, but the boy's grandmother (Salime Feizi), the glue who holds the family together, may yet have the last word.
