About this movie

Walt Disney Animation Studios presents the musical THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG, an animated comedy set in the great city of New Orleans. This is a modern twist on a classic tale featuring a beautiful girl named Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), a frog prince who desperately wants to be human again, and a fateful kiss that leads them both on a hilarious adventure through the mystical bayous of Louisiana. THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG marks the return to hand-drawn animation from the revered team of John Musker and Ron Clements, with music by Oscar®-winning composer Randy Newman.

The general idea is real cute, I like Tiana(?), I like that they are instilling the hard work ethic and of course the 'follow your dreams' that Disney is all about. And I appreciate Disney adding another ethnic Princess (Jasmine being the other). Now, I understand that voodoo is a part of New Orleans, unfortunately they took that voodoo magic too far into the dark and scary realm for it to be a family friendly movie. If I wanted to watch something this intense it wouldn't be animated and it wouldn't be with my children.

This movie is a lot of fun. It has a cool concept for a villain, cool songs that fit the jazz theme of the New Orleans setting, 2D animation, and a lot of enjoyable humor and characters. Despite all there is to like about the movie it is kind of flawed. For one, the plot is a lot for a small child to his or her head around. The villain's motives are unclear as well. It's hinted a few times as to what his motives are, but they're never made that clear. The romance also felt a tad forced and rushed.
