About this movie

Jon Baker (Dax Shepard) and Frank “Ponch” Poncherello (Michael Peña) have just joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Los Angeles but for very different reasons. Baker is a beaten-up pro motorbiker trying to put his life and marriage back together. Poncherello is a cocky undercover Federal agent investigating a multi-million dollar heist that may be an inside job — inside the CHP. The inexperienced rookie and hardened pro are teamed together, but clash more than click, so kickstarting a partnership is easier said than done. But with Baker’s bike skills combined with Ponch’s street savvy it might just work…if they don’t drive each other crazy along the way.

The two leads make this movie work (somewhat). For a comedy there is quite a lot of gore and mayhem (including head decapitation). The sexual humor is bizarre but apparently what Hollywood considers reality. Another (ir)reality is that the leads can be hit by a truck or smacked with an iron bar, and still be plucky and cheery in the next scene, much like the Wiley Coyote cartoons. All in all, this has Hollywood shlock/nonsense written all over it. You will be amused during its run time, if you don't think too hard about it. Another bonus, you can stop the movie at any point, go off and do something worthwhile, and return to it without any loss of plot tension or emotional involvement with the characters.

When I watched this, I was hoping you could rent it but it was already on the $8 or less rack. I figured I'd check it out to see the difference between the 6 seasons of tv episodes I own. There were people in here leaving messages saying they kept laughing all thru the movie and I could not find a spot to laugh at. All thru the movie was sexist. No matter what was going on, sex talk had to come up. When people got hit by cars, instead of sliding or being thrown away from area, a computer motion comes up where you can see them fly 2 feet by computer vision.

Just watching the commercials for this made me cringe. I've watch the original CHiPs show several times and I still love it. THIS MOVIE IS JUST OFFENSE TO THE ORIGINAL. Comedy movies are just getting worse and worse with each one and just piggy-back off of good original shows and make them a joke. It's not funny or entertaining IN ANY WAY so please Hollywood, just stop butchering it for the rest of us.
