This is a highly underrated film. It is refined and enigmatic. Nicole Kidman gives one of her finest performances as Anna, the tragic heroine of Birth, an autumnal, mysterious romance. The score by Alexandre Desplat is unforgettable. Nine years before his other masterpiece, Under the Skin, Jonathan Glazer astonished me with this haunting meditation on death and the deep connections we have to those who pass away before us.
