About this movie

From Academy Award® - winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton (Best Animated Film, WALL-E, 2008) comes John Carter - a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). Based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic novel, John Carter is a war-weary, former military captain who's inexplicably transported to Mars and reluctantly becomes embroiled in an epic conflict. It's a world on the brink of collapse, and Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands. Stunning special effects, great characters and villains - John Carter is a heroic and inspirational adventure that will thrill you beyond imagination.

Difficult not to like this movie. I've seen reviews elsewhere that state this movie stole ideas from Star Wars, like the scene in the arena with the fighting ape like creatures. Actually it's the other way round, Star Wars borrowed ideas from John Carter. Seeing as the book was written over a hundred years ago and it was an inspiration to George Lucas, as he's mentioned before, there's your answer. The film itself is reasonably close to the book, great special effects, easy to follow the story, plenty of humour, simply a good watch.

The film was well directed, the acting was top notch, it is just far off enough from the book to make it surprising and engaging to people who know carters first story. Kitsch was a fantastic lead man as carter, and Lynn Collins played deja thoris brilliantly. The tharks were perfect adaptations for the film, and it was one whole ride of fun, pulp-inspired action and emotional scenes. With a fantastic ending that leaves you wanting more! Woola was amazing too! 10/10 from me but I am biased. Ak akim akte wiz baursu'm please!

Despite the disastrous box office performance (which was largely down to horrible marketing at all levels), the movie itself is brilliantly done, and mostly succeeds at filming an unfilmable work. If you didn't watch this at the cinema, this is a great way to catch it. The story's good, and the movie has been filmed well to match the scale of the epic saga.
