About this movie

Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey stars in this epic, untold true story of defiant Southern farmer, Newt Knight and his extraordinary armed rebellion against the Confederacy during the Civil War. Despite overwhelming odds, Knight banded together with other small farmers and local slaves and launched an uprising that led Jones County, Mississippi to secede from the Confederacy, creating a Free State of Jones. Written and directed by four-time Oscar nominee Gary Ross (The Hunger Games, Seabiscuit, Pleasantville), critics are hailing Free State of Jones as "riveting" – A.O. Scott, The New York Times. idk if these Hollywood types who made this movies are not the smartest when they did their homework for this film. Odds are the ppl who made this film were Dems since after all it's a Hollywood movie. But to see the plot, faces & heels portrayed in the way it did was let's say inaccurate at best. They didn't realize that the Democratic party created the KKK. They made complete fools of themselves & did injustice to the film due to their own lack of morals, knowledge and bias.

Terrible script, the dialogue will blow your mind. And not in amazement. Theres no real compelling narrative as the film jumps all over the place. I can't get back the two and a half hours I spent watching it but if this post prevents one person from screening Free State of Jones, I'll feel as though I helped in some small way.

Haven't seen movie, but trailor looked great. My uncle, Harlen McKnight, who is married to my mother's sister, is a descendent of Jones. People are so used to the excitement & action of movies that they expect it esp of movies this type, and I've read some comments that this movie was boring. To each his own, but this movie was made according to historical fact, & even involved some actual family descendents in the making of it, in the movie itself. My family is proud to have had this opportunity.
