About this movie

Unrated and too intense for theaters with more witches, weapons and action! Get ready for a twisted take on the classic tale as Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) have turned pro, coping with the trauma of their childhood captivity by slaying witches for hire. But when the seemingly unstoppable bounty hunters meet their match in an enemy so evil, it'll take all their training, weapons and courage to survive. Revenge is sweeter than candy.

This was a different take on the classic Hansel and Gretel fairy tale. As the title reads I didn't find it great or utterly disappointing. It could have been better and it could have been a hell of a lot worse, thus it lands smack dab in middle. Currently there are over 300 people that rated this movie 4 or 5 stars. In reading them I found quite a few that read as if the movie is only "okay", some read exactly that. That would be a 3 star rating. DO NOT RATE IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO USE A RATING SCALE For these reviews to be this lopsided on a such an obviously average film it's no wonder Hollywood continues to churn out drivel continuously.

Cracks me up though when you have a witch that can pick up somebody by one hand, but whenever it comes time to finishing off one of main characters during a fight, the person that's about to be finised off can somehow hold the witches (suddenly not so strong) hand back. But of course that age-old fight sequence type is done in every single movie with that type of fight scene. I went ahead and bought it because I would watch this again -just wish I got the unrated version.

A great "What if..." adaptation of a familiar fairy-tale. I had no expectations when watching it for the first time and was very pleasantly surprised with the results. Fairy-tale magic plus steampunk style tech plus good looking stars willing to play it to the nines makes for a very entertaining get-away from the drudgery of reality. And to all those who poo-pooed the movie, lighten up people, you're taking yourself way too seriously.
