About this movie

The uniquely imaginative Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge!, Australia) tackles F. Scott Fitzgerald'’s landmark novel, The Great Gatsby, with blockbuster star Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role. Spider-Man'’s Tobey Maguire stars as the Fitzgerald-like would-be writer Nick Carraway who arrives in New York in 1922, an era of loose morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick encounters the mysterious millionaire Gatsby and his bewitching cousin Daisy. Soon, Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super-rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. Bearing witness to this new world, Nick pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and unforgettable tragedy -- mirroring our own times and struggles.

Terrible piece. Its needlessly over the top, they go through all the trouble to re-create the period and then overlay modern music /sound effects (car horns). The story is bland and I feel it's one of dicaprio's worst performances. If I hear "old sport" one more time, I might see red.

Allow me to be one of the few to be HONEST and say I never read the book. That's the reason I saw the movie. Secondly, WOW you guys have to stop comparing the styles of two completely different mediums. If this or any other film adapted from a novel were to be identical, you would end up with butt sores because you've been sitting for seven hours...

Let's face it, someone's interpretation of a book is different from the next person. I dont want to discredit somebody's talent or vision, however, this was in all fairness two hours of staring at the time on the play bar. First of all, dont modernize it and try to relate with people with rap/hip hop, how utterly insane is it to put that non sense in this movie. This book, let's face it, needed more than two hours, and a new director/producer. Dont waste your time, Dont listen to the masses, this blows.
