An intense, extremely naturalistic examination of deranged, glory-obsessed Spaniard's futile and arrogant attempt to conquer vast primeval jungle and the natives that inhabit it. For every great story of conquest and plunder in the New World, there must have been countless stories like this. And this film will show you every ounce of pain such people must have felt as the tremendous forces of nature humbled and tormented them into submission. Highly recommended for those who have the patience for slow, but precise film-making. It will stick with you.

As much as I want to love this, I can't. While everything Klaus Kinski is superb, everything not Klaus Kinski is less than superb. Big props to the filming crew though, this seemed like a production nightmare.
