"Immortals" directed by Tarsem Singh is an incredible action pack fantasy movie. The movie is loosely based on the Ancient Greek mythology stories of Theseus and The Minotaur, the Return of the Heraclids and the Titanomachy. The visuals and the cinematography is breathtaking and looks beautiful. The costumes, the weapons, design sets, and movie props are very well made. The visuals are undeniably outstanding. The music score was very well composed. The cast was for the roles of their characters. Henry Cavill was born for the role as Thesus, the mortal chosen by Zeus to fight the forces of evil and the mighty champion who defeated the Minotaur. Henry Cavill gives an excellent performance as Thesus and as the physique for his role. Mickey Rourke delivers an excellent performance as the ruthless and cruel king of Crete, Hyperion. Based on his performance, Mickey Rourke is truly effective as being a truly terrific, scary villain as he was committed in making his character, Hyperion as a very detestable figure. John Hurt gives a brilliant performance as the old man who is actually Zeus in disguised as a mentor to Theseus. Friedo Pinto is beautiful and does a good job in her role as Phaedra, an Oracle priestess who escapes Hyperion and travels with Thesus to find the Epirus Bow to stop Hyperion and his Heraklion army. Stephen Dorff was a decent in his role as a thief named Stavros who becomes Thesus’ side-kick. Even though Luke Evans is a brilliant actor in his many roles, I do not think that he was to best choice for the role as Zesus, the king of Gods on Mount Olympus and the god of sky and thunder. Isabel Lucas as Athena, Kellan Lutz as Poseidon, Daniel Sharman as Ares and the cast who played the Olympian gods were very good. The movie does an excellent job to explain why gods support some mortals and abandon others and why free will is the key in reaching the goals of liberation and prosperity. Thesus’ “Fight for honor, fight for your children, fight for your future, fight for immortality” speech is epic and is one of Hollywood’s many outstanding battle movie speeches. The final battle with Greeks lead by Thesus against King Hyperion’s army and the climactic clash between the Gods of Olympus against the malicious Titans are astounding and the highlights of the entire movie. Despite all of the bad reviews that “Immortals” has received, this movie has really well written script, great fight scenes, beautiful camera work, and a truly great cast. "Immortals" is indeed a true thriller and an epic movie.

If all you care about it pretty special effects and CGI, then by all means rate this film 4 stars or more. Excuse me if I put you into a stereotype box of "backwoods ignorant illiterate hillbilly moron with zero taste in anything and a deep hatred for thinking". This film is a condescending, insulting, mind-wasting junkfest. Story and plot is barely there. Talented actors/actresses are wasted and go unused...characters barely serve more purpose than the sets and CG...all in all this was the perfect example of big Hollywood's attitude that "if its pretty, and we put a ton in to marketing, people will eat it up no matter how crappy it is. Americans like what we tell them to like, because were filthy rich piggies and they are the mindless worms we eat". I haven't been so angry and insulted by a film...ever. Even Expendables 2 - also trash - had the decency not to take itself seriously or worry about quality or believability or even the laws of physics. And I got 30 minutes in and stopped it for being dumb. The immortals isn't just dumb, its a visual representation of the contempt and "superiority" the sociopath CEO's of JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo etc. feel at us non-billionaires.

I like the Conan the Barbarian and other movies of that type, but I have to say this was horrible. No real story, I couldn't follow what they were doing and why. This coupled with massive amounts of grossly overdone violence left me cold. It bares little resemblance to actual Greek myths, so you won't learn much about them here. Glad I didn't see it in the theatre, I would have walked out. It was almost as bad as The Scorpion King.
