About this movie

A famous Italian filmmaker, haunted by the memories of his first love, returns to his hometown after an absence of 30 years. Upon his return, he reconnects with the community and remembers the highlights and tragedies that shaped his life and inspired him to follow his dream of becoming a filmmaker. For those who have never seen it -- and those who have never forgotten it -- director Giuseppe Tornatore's (MALENA, THE STAR MAKER) cherished Academy Award®-winning motion picture (1990, Best Foreign Language Film) is now fully restored, digitally remastered, and includes 51 minutes of never-before-seen footage!

This has got to be the greatest film about love that has ever been produced. Tornatore is a genius. Do yourself a favor and don't watch the extended version. It isn't nearly as magical as the original or international cut.

This movie has been ensconced within the confines of my film loving soul from the first time I saw it in a theater. It is the definitive rumination upon life, love and community framed within the proscenium of a movie theater in a small Sicilian town. Pure unadulterated joy!

I don't understand all the glowing reviews. It was a chore to watch. Sentimental and boring with one note characters that are not enjoyable to watch. I kept waiting for something to happen... all the way to the end.
