In their nearly 35-year career, SoCal punk diehards Bad Religion have honed their style and approach with single-minded commitment. On True North, adrenaline-fast drumming and classic punk power chords once again anchor the deadpan harmonies and politically-charged, syllable-stuffed missives of core members Greg Graffin (a Ph.D. holder and sometime college professor) and Brett Gurewitz (founder of Epitaph Records). But if the band's sound has evolved imperceptibly over the years, their political ire is up-to-date. True North highlight "Robin Hood in Reverse" digs at Mitt Romney's "corporations are people" quote and the Citizens United ruling (while still making room for a Sham 69 shout-out). As punk vets hitting their fifties, Bad Religion do an admirable job keeping up their youthful energy and ideals—and still giving them room to grow.
