Brian Wilson Presents Smile is the fifth studio album by Brian Wilson, released in September 2004. Its production began as a series of concert performances which were then adapted for a studio album, as well as a 2005 direct-to-video concert film of the same title. The album received great acclaim and earned Wilson his first Grammy Award, later being featured in several "greatest albums" lists. Upon release, it peaked at number 7 on the UK Albums Chart.
The project was originally conceived in 1966 as Smile, a concept album recorded by the Beach Boys written in collaboration between Wilson and lyricist Van Dyke Parks. It was intended to succeed the group's 11th studio album Pet Sounds and was based on the engineering methods of their single "Good Vibrations". Many years after the project was shelved due to personal and technical difficulties with recording, Wilson chose to revisit the material with Parks as a specially arranged live concert performance. Motivated by the unexpected positive reception, a studio-recorded version was then released by Wilson as a solo album.

Surf's Up is the 17th studio album by American rock band the Beach Boys, released in 1971. It was met with a warm critical reception and reached number 29 on the US record charts, becoming their highest-charting LP of new music in the US since 1967. In the UK, Surf's Up peaked at number 15, continuing a string of top 40 records that had not abated since 1965.
Both the album's title and cover artwork are an ironic, self-aware nod to the band's early surfing image. It was named after the closing track "Surf's Up", a song which had been written and partially recorded in 1966 for the group's unfinished album Smile. Surf's Up's creative direction was largely influenced by newly employed band manager Jack Rieley, who strove to reinvent the group's image and reintroduce them to the era's counterculture. Two singles were issued in the US: "Long Promised Road" and "Surf's Up". Only the former charted, peaking at number 89.
In 2004, the album was voted 154 in a German edition of Rolling Stone's "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" and ranked 61 on Pitchfork Media's "The Top 100 Albums Of The 1970s". It is listed in the musical reference book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

Brainwashed is the twelfth and final studio album by English rock musician George Harrison. It was released posthumously on 18 November 2002, almost a year after his death at age 58, and 15 years after his previous studio album, Cloud Nine. Recordings began over a decade before Harrison's death but were repeatedly delayed. The album's overdubs were completed by his son Dhani and longtime friend and collaborator Jeff Lynne.
Brainwashed reached the top 30 in the UK and the top 20 in the US, and received mostly favourable reviews. The album includes the singles "Stuck Inside a Cloud" and "Any Road". The instrumental "Marwa Blues" went on to receive the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance, while "Any Road" was nominated for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

Ram is a studio album by Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney, released in May 1971 on Apple Records. Ram was recorded amid McCartney's legal action in the United Kingdom's High Court to dissolve the Beatles' partnership, following the band's break-up the year before. It was recorded in New York with guitarists David Spinozza and Hugh McCracken, and future Wings drummer Denny Seiwell. Its release coincided with a period of bitter acrimony between McCartney and his former bandmate John Lennon, who perceived verbal slights in the lyrics to songs such as "Too Many People".
On release, Ram was unfavourably received by the majority of music critics, although opinion has become more positive in subsequent decades. The album was a commercial success nonetheless, topping the national albums charts in the UK, the Netherlands and Canada. Three singles were issued from Ram: "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey", which was McCartney's first number 1 hit in America as a solo artist, "The Back Seat of My Car" and "Eat at Home". The album was remastered on vinyl and CD and released as a deluxe box set in May 2012.

Son of Schmilsson is the eighth album by American singer Harry Nilsson. Nilsson was being pressured to produce a follow-up album similar to his 1971 breakthrough, Nilsson Schmilsson, but instead, he created a more eccentric work. The album was produced by Richard Perry and features musical contributions from former Beatles Ringo Starr and George Harrison. Other musicians on the recording include Nicky Hopkins, Klaus Voormann, Bobby Keys and Peter Frampton. Among the album's tracks are "You're Breakin' My Heart" and the US hit "Spaceman".
Most of the sessions were extensively filmed, at the request of Nilsson. The footage was to be used for a planned documentary, titled Did Somebody Drop His Mouse?, but the film was never released.
The album cover features a photograph of Nilsson taken by Michael Putland at Harrison's home, Friar Park. The album was remastered and released on CD with two bonus tracks in 2000 and with five bonus tracks in 2006.

Imagination is the third studio album by Brian Wilson, and his second release of new original studio material. It was issued in 1998 on Giant Records and distributed by Warner Music Group. The album received mixed reviews upon its release and its commercial performance was relatively weak. Its best-known track is "Your Imagination", a Top 20 hit on adult contemporary radio. The second single, "South American", was co-written by Jimmy Buffett. Wilson dedicated the song "Lay Down Burden" to his brother Carl Wilson, who died of cancer earlier in the year.
Joe Thomas worked with Wilson as the album's co-producer. He was held responsible by critics for the album's style and production. Shortly after its release, Wilson filed a suit against Thomas, seeking damages and a declaration which freed him to work on his next album without involvement from Thomas. I Just Wasn't Made for These Times is the second studio album by Brian Wilson. Co-produced by Don Was, the album followed Wilson's eponymous debut seven years after its release. It also serves as a soundtrack album for the documentary Brian Wilson: I Just Wasn't Made for These Times, also directed by Was. The titles are derived from the Beach Boys' song "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times".
