On the heels of her über-smash hit "Call Me Maybe," the Canadian pop princess sets out to prove she's more than a one-hit wonder with her U.S. debut. Justin Bieber's protégé is nearly ten years his senior, but her bubblegum pop is just as—if not more—sugary. The title track is a sunny dance tune celebrating irresistible love, while "Beautiful" is a duet with Bieber about becoming more than friends, and "Good Time" with Owl City is a classic party tune. As the album lingers on, the polished formulaic pop wears thin. Jepsen's pure, good girl persona, while sweet, leaves us looking forward to discovering whether there's more simmering beneath the surface.
