After a ten-year stint as part of cult alt-rock heroes The Czars, John Grant took a chance on a solo career with 2010's Queen Of Denmark and was rewarded with a batch of lavish critical praise, not least with rock rag Mojo naming it their album of the year. The Denver-based singer-songwriter's follow-up, Pale Green Ghosts, does nothing to diminish his reputation. Recorded in Iceland, Grant took inspiration from the landscapes surrounding him and the electronic-styled album sounds positively polar at times. (Reykjavik's Biggi Veira, of Gus Gus fame, also guests on 'Glacier.') Fortified by the airy production, Grant's lyrics resonate with an incisive and poignant appeal.
