Juan Magan was a popular DJ in Spain, spinning the kind of house music associated with summer in Ibiza. Then he hooked up with some of Latin music's biggest dance artists for a series of reggaeton, bachata and merengue-based mixes that, in 2012, crowned him the king of dance floors in Latin nightclubs and beyond. This set includes the number 1 single "Bailando por el Mundo," with Pitbull and El Cata. Magan joins Don Omar for another hit, "Ella No Sigue Modas," does the electro-mambo with Puerto Rican reggaeton disciple Gocho on "Fiesta" and plugs into the urban bachata trend with Grupo Extra on "Me Enamoré." The English-language "Not the One," with Chilean R&B singer Barbara Muñoz, is perhaps the most pedestrian track on the album. But there's nothing here that won't move you, and Magan's mixes attest to the brilliant fusion of the Latin EDM that has emerged in the new millennium, surpassing Latin pop in popularity. The King of Dance is a must-have for any summer 2012 party, destined to become a time capsule for the sound of this era's Latin music.
