Purpose is the fourth studio album by Canadian singer and songwriter Justin Bieber. It was released on November 13, 2015 by Def Jam Recordings and School Boy Records. It serves as the follow-up to Bieber's third studio album Believe, and it was developed after the release of his collection Journals, which saw him in a more R&B direction. The album was created over a period of two years, in which Bieber struggled to find a musical direction for recording, scrapping each of these tracks many times. The album features guest vocals from Travis Scott, Big Sean and Halsey, and production help from Skrillex and Diplo. Journals is the second compilation album by Canadian singer Justin Bieber. The album was only released digitally through online platforms, such as iTunes, on December 23, 2013 by Island Records. A ten-week digital download campaign entitled Music Mondays, in which one new song was released every Monday night, was held from October 7, 2013 to December 9, 2013. In addition to the songs released on Music Mondays, Journals is also composed of five other previously unreleased songs. The recording sessions took place while Bieber was on his Believe Tour, which generated one or two songs a day throughout the entire tour.
To achieve a more mature sound, Journals sees Bieber working with a variety of different R&B producers, such as Jason "Poo Bear" Boyd, Maejor Ali, Andre Harris, D.K. the Punisher, Soundz and The Audibles, as well as his previous producers Chef Tone, T-Minus, Diplo, Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins and Sir Nolan, while collaborating with R&B and hip-hop artists and rappers such as R.
