With their seventh album, Resolution, Virginia-bred metal heavyweights Lamb of God have made the transcendent, masterful album they always had in them. The band's unbridled aggression, innate melodicism and technical prowess are funneled into 14 tracks of metallic perfection that serve as both a mission statement and a comment on metal itself. Sure, the Pantera-esque grooves plus the worship-worthy riffing and drumming deserve note, but the unique song structures and the general cohesiveness make this an anvil of an album. The dichotomy of energetic and sludgy, catchy and crusty, polished and rough make for good metal music. The opener "Straight for the Sun," the explosive "Invictus" and sequences like when "The Number Six" leads into the weepy guitar interlude "Barbarossa" are particular highlights.
