Nobody, not even Maroon 5 themselves, could've predicted the impact their debut album would have on the development of American pop in the 21st century. An audacious blend of urban grooves, U2-tinged jangle and, of course, Adam Levine's sexed-up croon, Songs About Jane helped kick start a brand new dialog between mainstream rock and modern R&B. This, the 10th Anniversary Edition, contains a wealth of demos that offer listeners a telling peek into the music's genesis. What's interesting to note is how most of the tracks sound fully developed even in their formative stages. A perfect example is monster single "Harder to Breathe." The final version might be deliciously slathered in myriad production flourishes, but as its demo proves, Maroon 5 knew exactly what they wanted from the get-go.
