Though Kottonmouth Kings have long been tagged as "rap-rock," they've always been a hip-hop group who are rock 'n' roll in attitude far more than they are in actual sound. In this sense, they're not unlike Judgment Night alumni Onyx or even House of Pain. Then again, those artists hail from the East Coast, whereas the Kings bleed SoCal culture through and through. Heavily colored by Dre's G-funk sway-and-bounce, Mile High is a glass pipe packed tight with chunky odes to the chronic, from "Hold It In" and "Roll Us a Joint" to "Packin' the Goods" and "Green Dreams (Mile High)." They do occasionally veer into porn exploits ("Honey Dip") and playa posturing ("Watch Out," featuring Twiztid). But when all is said and done, these jokers are happiest getting high, throwing parties and cracking wise.
