Kari Rueslåtten has one of the finest voices of alternative Nordic folk-pop. She is known for her dark-edged melancholy, always aiming to uncover the beauty hiding in the dark.
Back in 1997, Kari Rueslåtten released her first solo album – Spindelsinn. 20 years later Kari Rueslåtten is as vital and productive as ever, and celebrates the 20y anniversary for Spindelsinn with a brand new studio album.
Kari’s natural talent combined with classical training and roots in the Norwegian folk music tradition has resulted in a voice that is difficult to describe. Her music has been compared with artists like Tori Amos and Kate Bush, maybe not necessarily because the music sounds very similar, but because these are artists who sing with their own distinct voices. Just like Kari Rueslåtten.
Her unique talent has brought Kari Rueslåtten into cooperation with many different artists, from Toumas Holopainen from the Nightwish to the Norwegian rock legend Åge Aleksandersen.
Kari was one of the founder members of the progressive doom metal band The 3rd and the Mortal. The band was a source of inspiration for many other bands worldwide, among them Nightwish and The Gathering. After leaving The 3rd and the Mortal in 1995 she has released six solo studio albums, and one collection, and is now ready to release a new studio album.
She took a break from music in 2005. 8 years later in 2013, she re-entered the music scene with a cover version of The 3rd and the Mortal’s Why so Lonely, featuring Tuomas Holopainen from Nightwish. What made her start making music again?
– “What really triggered me to start making music again were all the kind messages I got from fans around the world asking me when new music would surface. I am most humble and grateful to find that there are people out there who have followed my music since my early beginning, back in The 3rd and the Mortal-days, and through all my solo-albums.”
Since her comeback in 2013, Kari Rueslåtten has toured Europe and Latin America both with solo concerts and with The Sirens – a project she has together with Anneke van Giersbergen (ex The Gathering) and Liv Kristine (ex Theatre of Tradgedy).
Kari Rueslåtten’s music is released in many countries all over the world. Listen to her music, and let Kari take you on an exiting journey through many different aspects of life, tied together with Kari Rueslåtten’s beautiful music and amazing voice.
