About the artist
Since 2007, Mike Dreams has been releasing projects and mixtapes in the Twin Cities and via online. Garnering various local and national support, through personal music relationships, and connecting with some of online’s biggest musical blog sites, such as DJBOOTH.NET, 2DopeBoyz.com, NahRight.com and more, Mike has slowly but surely been expanding his music out to the masses. At SOUNDSET 2010, one of the largest Midwest Outdoor hip-hop festivals (hosted by Minnesota-based indie label Rhymesayers Entertainment), Mike Dreams performed amongst other local and national acts including Toki Wright, Dessa (of Doomtree), Wiz Khalifa, Cage, Yelawolf, Method Man and Redman. Mike has also been the opening acts for the likes of national artists One.Be.Lo, Eyedea and Abilities, and more.
Mike also works heavily in his community in the Twin Cities by devoting time, efforts and concerns to issues he feels are important, including peace building and youth development. He served as the main performing act at the Midwest Regional PeaceJam International celebration ceremony for 2003 Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Shirin Ebadi of Iran in March 2007, and again in 2012, as well as the 2008 PeaceJam Celebration for Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and in 2010, for the 1992 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Rigoberta Mechu Tum of Guatemala. Mike Dreams is also currently on the youthrive LIVE! Concert Series across Minnesota and the Midwest at elementary, junior and senior high schools, a traveling concert tour promoting peace through hip-hop and performing arts. Mike Dreams and the tour have performed in various schools around Minnesota, the Red Wing Correctional Facility, the 2008 National Youth Leadership Conference and most recently, the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America.
The music is self-described as “aspiration-based, inspirational, generational, realistic and sincere.” Many of Mike’s songs come from life experiences, philosophy, self-actualization, nostalgia and coming of age. He’s released three official independent albums, Dreamer’s Poetry and Just Waking Up in 2010, as well as his latest effort, 2012's Millennial.
