With instantaneous, festival ready, euphoric guitar anthems in spades, Sea Girls have firmly set their sights on 2019 as theirs for the taking. Having met as teenagers, and dispersing for University, vocalist Henry Camamile headed south from studying in Newcastle to join the rest of the band in London, including guitarist Rory Young who had been studying Art at Goldsmiths. Ever since the four piece, consisting of vocalist and guitarist Henry, guitarist Rory, drummer Oli Khan and bassist Andrew Dawson, have consistently torn up the rule book, selling out venues up and down the country, their fanbase exploding all the while, as well as wreaking havoc at each and every one of the almost 25 festivals they played in 2018. Furthermore, Sea Girls were named as one of the BBC’s Sound Of… artists for 2019, the only band on the list. Fevered attention from DJs at Radio 1 greeted their last single All I Want To Hear You Say (it was Tune Of The Week with both Annie Mac and Jack Saunders) as well as strong support across Radio X and Amazing Radio, as well as a huge raft of support in to 2019 from the likes of NME, Metro and Time Out, with The Independent declaring “a fresh, uplifting and bold guitar-based sound that captures the spirit of youth”. With three EPs to their name, featuring the pneumatic, infectious punch of Too Much Fun, Eat Me Whole, What For, Call Me Out, All I Want To Hear You Say, as well as new single Open Up Your Head, these tracks have followed the trusty formula of being unrelenting guitar-fronted bangers that sound custom-made for the radio airwaves, festivals, headline shows and everything in between. With their debut album upcoming this year, Sea Girls are bringing things forward to the pure joy of what a band should be. Not only is the sky the limit for this incredibly talented young band, but this really is only just the beginning.
