Since their first show, A-WA has been dropping jaws, raising eyebrows, and making people dance. With their genuine passion for the music they create, the three sisters are able to captivate a culturally, socially, and globally diverse audience. To tell the story of A-WA, we have to begin in a small village in southern Israel, home to a beautiful landscape and magical desert sunsets. This is where Tair, Liron, and Tagel grew up – three sisters (out of six siblings) in the Haim family.
All three sisters studied music, sang, danced, and performed since a very young age, growing up listening to a wide variety of music in a supportive musical home. Encouraged by the flood of positive activity after posting their music on YouTube, Tair, Liron, and Tagel contacted Tomer Yosef, a well-known Israeli singer and producer. Tomer, like so many after him, fell in love with A-WA, and his groove, global musical knowledge, and Yemenite roots came together to create the phenomenon that A-WA has become today.
A-WA has blended electronic beats, Middle Eastern grooves, and Arabic and Hebrew vocals to create something that is unique, authentic, and refreshing. Their music simultaneously breaks down barriers and brings a warm and genuine message to all who listen.
A-WA's debut album includes 12 tracks, inspired by the chanting of traditional songs by Yemenite women. Included on NPR’s Best Albums of 2016 (So Far) and NPR’s Best Tracks of 2016 (So Far).
