About the artist
Despite obstacles of adolescent years, Zay soon found peace of mind in music and began crafting a unique sound among his peers. From freestyles at the lunch table in 1999 to recording his first release in 2005 entitled “Greenville Veteran”, he soon became known for his charismatic delivery of urban life. His depictions of the under-privileged that had no voice helped attract the attention of local promoters and landed him a performance at K104’s Summer Jam “Hot In The Hood” stage that same year. In 2006 after deciding to gain recognition on a regional scale, “Kingpen of the Streets” was released and circulated throughout Arkansas and Oklahoma bringing rave reviews.
After receiving several offers from independent labels, 2007 marked the official signing of Zay The Beast to Muzik Hall Muzik, the new Dallas, Texas based powerhouse. The goal was clear, gain unprecedented respect from the industry leaders and consumers. Later that year the label released “Respect Vol. 1” and “Respect Vol.2” followed in 2009. Although the messages in his music was for mature audiences, he was asked to reward J.W. Ray Elementary School with a surprise concert for standardized test takers in 2010.
For the next 2 years production credits for up and coming artists was key to the success of long anticipated “Past Due”, the free mixtape released in 2012. The project extended his range and helped build the connection with California based producer J. Dizzle, who soon started work on a hit single “It Ain’t Me”. The collaboration assisted both in expanding to new territories while providing a new sound somewhere in between south and west. Definitely unique.
Currently in the studio developing artists and constantly working on new music, listeners can expect more authentic music in the near future from Zay The Beast. When asked his opinion on why he is different, he states “Music now days is about having the upper hand, I just speak for the under dogs trying to survive the hardships while staying sane”.
