About the artist
Herb Hein is a singer/songwriter who has been creating meaningful music for three decades, while also pursuing his career as a speech-language pathologist in San Diego. His earliest songs were written with Greg Hengesbaugh. Later, he released the CD Tide Park with his musical partner, Jeff Proctor, as the musical duo, Jeff and Herb. Herb's lyrics have been inspired by his life experiences as a husband, a father and a clinician. His melodic tenor voice reminds listeners of Gerry Rafferty and Dan Fogelberg. When harmony is added by his partner Jeff, or some of the sublime voices backing him on Optimism Returns, the listener will be transported to new heights. Herb was fortunate to connect with Jeff Berkley, of the stellar folk duo Berkley Hart. As the producer, Berkley brought in some of the best musicians and vocalists from Southern California to add their magic. The 17 songs on Optimism Returns include a variety of genres, from Blues (with sweet saxophone and guitar riffs complementing the powerhouse voice of Eve Selis), Folk (with back-up strings including cello, violin, banjo, fiddle, & dobro), Rock (with piano, bass, & drums), Latin (with a spicy horn section), and Prayerful music (with just Herb's voice and his piano). All of these unique tracks are enjoyably inspiring, and will appeal to a broad spectrum of music lovers.
