At only 20 years old, Mathew V has quickly begun attracting attention with his distinctive voice and penchant for sweeping melodies and meticulously crafted pop songs. He has drawn comparisons to Sam Smith, Calum Scott and Rufus Wainwright and his dramatic song writing and stage presence has brought him out of the woodwork in his hometown of Vancouver BC and in front of a growing fanbase.
Mathew V began classical voice training at the young age of 7, eventually reaching the point of singing operas in 5 different languages. Mathew’s first exposure to pop music came from his parent’s Celine Dion and Shania Twain collections and he began to develop an ear for cinematic melodies. At 14 years old he began to explore the pop music world and began writing his own songs. Since then he has worked steadily on his song writing and developing his range and character as a singer.
His debut album Sounds was produced by Matt Rogers in Vancouver and is a collection of up tempo pop songs and grandiose piano driven ballads showing a maturity that belies his age. The album tangles with themes of insecurity and uncertainty and he’s not afraid to delve into some of the darker recesses emotionally.
“Day I Die” is the 3rd single from Mathew V’s debut and will be available worldwide on September 22nd. The track was written with Luca Fogale and is a powerful piano song that showcases Mathew’s power as a vocalist.
Mathew V is currently managed by Simkin Artist Management in Vancouver, BC. He is currently focusing on building his strength and character as a songwriter and has been collaborating with Royal Wood, DiRTY RADiO and Dan Mangan.
