Todrick Hall was a top 16 finalist on Season 9 of American Idol, auditioning in Dallas, Texas. He sang an original song for his audition that began, “Todrick is my name, and I’m here to play a part of the game.” All four judges voted to send him to Hollywood.
Making his Broadway debut in Oprah Winfrey’s “The Color Purple,” starring Fantasia Barrino, Todrick has also performed in “Beauty and the Beast” at Disney World, “High School Musical 2″ and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, in addition to theme parks and on cruise ships for Royal Caribbean and Holland America worldwide. He started dancing and singing in church when he was just ten years old in Plainview, Texas. He graduated from Bowie High School in 2003.
Video has been a very popular medium for Todrick since 2010, when he sang his order in a McDonald’s drive-thru and captured it on a mobile phone. Millions of views later, Todrick’s flash mob videos in Walmart, Target and more restaurant chains have gone viral as well. His own original music videos are increasingly popular, and definitely aren’t hindered by the halo effect.
Todrick is writing, choreographing and directing a tour of his own original production, “Oz, the Musical.” He says that he has never missed an episode of “American Idol” and won’t take a job that interferes with the show’s schedule.
Home for Todrick now ranges from New York City to Arlington to Los Angeles, where he is actively pursuing a music career.
