Krizz Kaliko

Samuel William Christopher Watson IV, better known by his stage name Krizz Kaliko, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He is a longtime collaborator with fellow hometown native Tech N9ne and is signed to his label Strange Music from its inception since 1999.

As a central figure in indie rap icon Tech N9ne's Kansas City-based Strange Music empire, Krizz Kaliko has definitely learned a thing or two from his boss. On his fourth album, Kickin' & Screamin', Krizz closely mirrors Tech's aggressive, theatrical displays of double time rap virtuosity but does so with greater musical ambitions. He's anointed himself with the tag "Funkra"—funk mixed with opera—but even this undersells his hybrid styles. Kickin' jumps so spastically around genres and across generations—from dubstep to doo-wop, from nu-metal to neo-soul—that it'd be hard to construct any portmanteau to do it justice. And while there's a natural charm to his scattered approach, it's Krizz's raw technical ability that truly sells it.
