Sign of the Times
1989 is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, released on October 27, 2014, through Big Machine Records. Following the release of her fourth studio album Red, which critics considered Swift's emergence from her trademark country styles to straightforward pop, Swift sought to completely move away from country. Inspired by 1980s synth-pop, she enlisted a production team whose key figures included herself, Max Martin, Shellback, Ryan Tedder, and Jack Antonoff, who shaped the album's overall 1980s-styled sonic coherence. Martin and Swift served as the album's executive producers.
Titled after Swift's birth year, 1989 is a synth-pop record that uses heavy synthesizers, programmed percussion, and processed background vocals. While the album is primarily about reflections on past romantic relationships, Swift's recurring theme, it presents more mature and wistful perspectives, expressing self-discovery. Critical reaction to 1989 was generally positive; the pop production polarized reviewers, but Swift's songwriting received mostly favorable responses.
Title is the debut major-label studio album by American singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor. The album was released on January 9, 2015, by Epic Records and replaced Trainor's 2014 extended play with the same name on the iTunes Store. Its songs were mostly co-written and co-composed by Trainor and Kevin Kadish, and produced by Kadish. Other artists who collaborated on the album include Chris Gelbuda, Jesse Frasure, John Legend and Shy Carter. Musically, Title was inspired by Trainor's love for throwback style records, and music from the 1950s and 1960s. She combined different musical genres, including Caribbean, doo-wop, hip hop, soca and pop, for the album's songs.
The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 with sales of 238,000 album-equivalent units, of which 195,000 were pure album sales. It also peaked at number one in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Scotland, and the United Kingdom. Title became Epic's first number one album since Michael Jackson's The Essential Michael Jackson to enter at the top of the Australian chart. The album was preceded by two commercially successful singles.

Pink and her manager, Roger Davies, served as the album's executive producers. Primarily a pop album, it also incorporates influences from EDM and folk music. The lyrical content reflects primarily on themes of love, heartbreak, and the duality of life, as well as expressing societal and global issues.
