Superficial is the debut studio album by American television personality Heidi Montag, digitally released on January 11, 2010 by Warner Music Group. After being cast in the reality television series The Hills and subsequently achieving public notability, she entered the music industry and began recording the project in 2007. However, it suffered from several setbacks after recorded material intended for the project was leaked and proved unsuccessful. Montag enlisted collaborators Steve Morales, Chris Rojas, The Runners, Sebastian Jacome, Fingazz during its production.
Superficial received mixed to negative reviews from music critics. It debuted at number 41 on the U.S. Billboard Heatseekers Albums Chart with first-week sales of approximately 1,000 copies. Consequently, the record did not earn back the $2 million that Montag spent during its production; she later blamed its failure on inadequate promotional efforts. "Superficial" was released as the only single from the record on November 22, 2009; its accompanying music video was premiered in April 2010.

Undaunted by the commercial indifference that greeted her self-titled debut effort in 2010, Ashlyne Huff quickly returns in 2011 with her sophomore release, Let It Out. Huff is taking careful aim at the teen dance-pop market, which means beat-heavy productions with simple, repetitive choruses that she chirps in a voice treated by Auto-Tune. Probably the likeliest hit is "Whatever," a reflection on love gone sour rendered in teen patois. Once, Huff sings, she thought love was forever, but "Now, I'm, like, ‘whatever.'" Hip-hop and rap elements are given limited exposure, but mostly this is pure pop with a laser focus on its target audience; the percussive title song sounds more like a cheerleader chant than an actual song. Huff and her collaborators have succeeded in coming up with a batch of tracks that would slot in seamlessly on Top 40 radio between Katy Perry and P!nk, but promotional considerations are likely to determine whether any of the songs succeed. The field is crowded, and the competition fierce.

Colours is the second album by British recording artist Nadia Oh. It was released in the United Kingdom and the United States on 8 May 2011 by Tiger Trax Records. Numerous viral videos have been released through the video-sharing website YouTube to promote the album as well as multiple fan promo videos. Like Oh's debut effort, the album only spawned one main single, "Taking Over the Dancefloor", released digitally on 24 April 2011, However Colours was re-released on 18 September 2011 to include four new tracks: "No Bueno", "Shade", "I Like It Loud", and "Follow Me".
