Skyfall (Original Soundtrack)
From the start, soundtracks for James Bond films have achieved an impact parallel to the films' many other iconic moments; from the immediately recognizable twang guitar of the Bond theme (credited to Monty Norman and originally arranged by John Barry), to the defining title track vocals, including Shirley Bassey's memorable "Diamonds Are Forever" and "Goldfinger." With Skyfall, the noted film composer Thomas Newman takes on the Bond legacy for the first time. Fair warning: those searching for Adele’s popular “Skyfall” track here will search in vain; for reasons that puzzle and for only the second time in 007 history, a Bond soundtrack has been released without the title tune. What remains is a score displaying the nimble pointillism, Newman's forté, while the weaving of the original James Bond theme into some of the tracks is a nice touch.
