Rainbow is the third studio album by American singer Kesha. It was released on August 11, 2017 by Kemosabe and RCA Records. Primarily a pop record, Rainbow incorporates elements of pop rock, glam rock, neo soul and country pop. Its lyrical themes range from letting go of the past, finding forgiveness within oneself for past mistakes, self-worth and, in some cases, female empowerment. Kesha assumed an integral role in the album's production and collaborated with several producers, including Ricky Reed, Drew Pearson, Ben Folds, and her mother Pebe Sebert.
Following the release of her second studio album Warrior, Kesha dealt with several struggles in her personal and professional lives, including a stint in a treatment centre for an eating disorder and emotional issues, as well as a highly publicized and still ongoing legal battle with her former producer Dr. Luke, whom she accused of sexual, physical and emotional abuse. She began writing material for her next album while in rehab in 2014 and as her recording contract at the time obliged her to work with Dr. Luke, she later recorded a series of new songs on her own and gave them to her label.
Never Really Over
Tell Me You Love Me
Tell Me You Love Me is the sixth studio album by American singer Demi Lovato. It was released on September 29, 2017 by Island, Safehouse and Hollywood Records. Primarily a pop record, the album also explores elements of R&B. Lovato described the album as having a more "soulful" side than her previous work, and named Christina Aguilera, Aretha Franklin and Kehlani as its major influences. Contributions to the album's production came from several producers, including Mitch Allan, David Massey, Oak Felder, Stint, and John Hill.
Lyrically, Tell Me You Love Me explores themes of recovering from heartbreak, letting go of past demons, and being single. "Sorry Not Sorry" was released as the lead single from the album in July 2017 and would go on to become Lovato's most successful single in the United States, peaking at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and being certified triple platinum by RIAA. The title track was released as the second and final single from the album in November, peaking at number 53 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was later certified platinum by the RIAA.
Younger Now is the sixth studio album by American singer Miley Cyrus. It was released on September 29, 2017, by RCA Records. Cyrus began planning a commercial follow-up record to her fourth album Bangerz while simultaneously making her experimental fifth album Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz in 2015, although later became influenced by her reconciliation with fiancé Liam Hemsworth in 2016. Younger Now was written and produced by Cyrus and Oren Yoel, with whom she had collaborated on her previous two full-lengths. Not concerning herself with radio airplay, their efforts resulted in an "honest" final product that sees Cyrus "leaning into her roots." It features guest vocals from singer Dolly Parton, Cyrus' godmother.
Younger Now received generally mixed reviews from music critics, who felt that the songwriting and production lacked substance. It debuted at number five on the US Billboard 200 with first-week figures of 45,000 album-equivalent units, and stands as Cyrus' lowest peak in the country and her smallest first-week sales there. The two singles released from the album, "Malibu" and the title track, respectively peaked at numbers ten and 79 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Head Above Water
Head Above Water is the sixth studio album by Canadian singer Avril Lavigne. It was released on February 15, 2019, through BMG Rights Management. It is Lavigne's first studio release since her self-titled fifth studio album, marking the longest gap between two of her studio albums. She assumed an integral role in the album's production and collaborated with several producers including Chad Kroeger, Stephan Moccio, Chris Baseford, Johan Carlsson, Lauren Christy from The Matrix, Ryan Cabrera, Travis Clark of We the Kings, Bonnie McKee, JR Rotem and Mitch Allan among others.
The album draws inspiration from Lavigne's battle with Lyme disease, with her describing the album as an "emotional journey". The song "Head Above Water" was released as the lead single from the album in September 2018, followed by "Tell Me It's Over" as the second single in December, "Dumb Blonde" as the third single the week of the album's release, a collaboration with rapper Nicki Minaj and "I Fell in Love with the Devil" as the fourth single in June. The album became her sixth consecutive album to chart in the top five of Lavigne's home country, Canada.
Meaning Of Life
Meaning of Life is the eighth studio album by American singer Kelly Clarkson, released by Atlantic Records on October 27, 2017. Executive produced by Clarkson and Craig Kallman, the album is her debut release for the label after successfully completing her recording contract with RCA Records, which she had won as the first American Idol winner. Weary of the structure of the previous record deal where she was strictly limited to releasing pop music, Clarkson wanted to pursue a different genre—soul and R&B music, which she had previously wanted to make and had only finally found the opportunity to do so after being signed by Kallman to the label.
Meaning of Life is Clarkson's first documented foray into pop-soul music, departing from the predominant pop and pop rock sound established from her previous studio releases and returning to her multi-genre performances on American Idol. Inspired by the music of the 1990s and prominent singers Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, En Vogue and Bonnie Raitt, Clarkson wanted the album evoke a music of those artists had they happen to release their early works in the 21st century—with the overall goal of emoting a "soulful" spirit.
Happiness Begins is the fifth studio album by the Jonas Brothers, released on June 7, 2019 by Republic Records. It debuted atop the US Billboard 200 with the largest sales week for an album since 2017.
