For The Good Times
The Little Willies
Norah Jones and Richard Julian open For the Good Times with a heart-on-sleeve declaration in full-throated harmony: "I worship you." Considering what follows—carefully chosen covers of Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn and Hank Williams—The Little Willies might as well be crooning to their musical heroes. On their second effort in seven years, the loose-knit outfit plays country staples like "Jolene" and "Remember Me," as well as lighthearted deep cuts and a lone original—guitarist Jim Campilongo's plucky instrumental "Tommy Rockwood." Even when the blue collar country-western sounds a bit put-on for these NPR darlings (like Cal Martin's roughneck trucker tune "Diesel Smoke, Dangerous Curves"), it's all done with tons of class, a disarming style and fun, freewheeling spirit.

Covered is the sixth studio album by American recording artist Macy Gray, released on March 26, 2012 by 429 Records. As the title suggests, the album features covers of previously released tracks by well known rock, pop, rap, and indie artists. Because of the profanities in some covers, such as "Creep", "Teenagers" and the skit "Really", this is Gray's first album to officially bear a Parental Advisory warning, and a clean version was also issued. Gray appeared on Conan to promote the album.
Lyle Lovett sounds like he's having a lot of fun on this freewheeling album of mostly covers. The eclectic array of tunes illuminates the wide-ranging nature of Lovett's own artistic makeup as he shifts seamlessly from classic country to blues, jazz and beyond. His wry delivery is ideal for the standard "Baby, It's Cold Outside," which is done here as a duet with jazz siren Kat Edmondson. He pays homage to his hero Townes Van Zandt with a locomotive-paced take on the latter's "White Freightliner Blues," and turns Chuck Berry's rocker "Brown Eyed Handsome Man" into a slice of swampy country soul, but wherever he roams, Lovett leaves his own indelible set of musical fingerprints.
