Love Analog SF&F. Hate the way it's published on Google Magazines The stories and facts are great. Attempting a two column per page layout on a 7" device in portrait mode doesn't work due to tiny text. Rotate to landscape? It goes to four columns and reduces the text size further. Further, they've put bright pink at the top of each story. Bright Pink?!? I know for sure this isn't in the print edition of the magazine. The only way to make a story here readable is to use the "View Text" option, To be plain I shouldn't have to hunt for a legible option. I'm very glad I bought a single month instead of a years subscription. Play magazines really manages to fubar this.
Not impressed with GP Magazines on Phone for Magazines like Analog For another type of magazine, or another type of device, i.e., a magazine with very short features and a device with a much larger screen than my phone, maybe this app is ok. However, Analog has longer stories, and I was unable to bookmark, and the app would keep taking me back to different parts of the story, maybe the beginning of the page for the magazine's layout, but not the beginning of the page for the Reading layout I was using on my phone. I'm going to give it a try for a while longer, see if they improve the app. I'm also going to try reading on different devices, such as my laptop. If I get an Android or Windows tablet, I'll try there as well.
Love Analog SFF, but hate Google Play Magazines I've been a reader of Analog SFF on paper and on eReader Palm format for the best part of 20 years. So, when I saw it was being offered as a GooglePlay subscription, I jumped and took the free trial. I regret to say that, although the magazine continues to be a great read, the Google Magazine app simply sucks. And what's worse, I can't save it as an EPUB file to read it with FBReader on whatever device I desire... so, I'm cancelling the subscription. Perhaps in the future, when the Google Magazine app is half as decent as FBReader, or at least lets me save the magazine I've purchased as an standard EPUB file, I may return.
Analog SFF I have read this magazine from cover to cover for over 30 years. About 5 years ago, the stories changed. I might read 1 or 2 magazines a year. This magazine no longer appeals to me. I now buy Analog SFF based more on the hopes that the stories are better. It is time to stop now. Thank you for some fantastic reading over the past 30 years. Maybe one day in the future, I will pick up Analog SFF and be pleasantly surprised.
£23 for a year's sub of monthly issues. I don't know why there are so many whiners on Google Play magazines, the price looks pretty good to me and no pesky paper to deal with!
Good magazine, terrible on Google Magazines. Can't save as an epub, so I'm not buying. And yeah, why the pink under the titles?
