Long time fan/reader I learned how to build PCs with Maximum PC. I bought my first issue around 2004. It was a DIY issue and I built a PC using there exact specs, including an ATI All In Wonder and Intel Celeron CPU. This is THE best mag for getting info on how to build PCs the right an simple way. Gordon and the rest of the crew are honest reviewers and give credit when its due be it Microsoft, Apple, Intel AMD or Nvidia. As for the price of the mag, for me the yearly sub price is just fine. I still sub to different mags in print, but its only because I still love the feeling of a paper mag. Get it if you want the best and possibly ONLY type of mag like this. If your tired of the other (?) PC mags that test every scanner and printer product out there, go to them, this mag is not for you. But if you want PC gaming product reviews and tips on how to make your PC run great, get a sub and start reading!
Long Time Subscriber says Yes! This is one of the most unbiased magazines I have ever read. Even if the PC being reviewed has a full page ad in a particular issue, they will rip it apart if it does not perform up to the manufacturers claims. This goes for all of the gadgets they tear apart and test. They are very brutal in their test procedures, my times over clocking and trying to run the device to the point of failure, with some successes. Bravo Maximum PC!
$7.99 too much 5 stars for the magazine but 1 star for their prices This was my first time buying a magazine on google play on my phone. I didnt realize that a "new" issue cost $7.99 and older issues are .99c. Seems rediculous when I could have just purchased monthly and canceled after I downloaded my July issue. Laugh it up for my stupidity but I gave Maximum PC too much trust with honest pricing.
I Hate Credit Cards Another lost sale. There are millions of us out there that realise credit cards are a quick road to amassing unaffordable debt. A lot of us use PayPal to avoid these trappings. By not giving me the PayPal option you have lost a sale right now and for the foreseeable future. Come on, I even pay my Xbox gold subscription via PayPal. (Ask them how many impulse purchases I make). Disappointed...
What happened to do no evil? $8 for the subscription and now Google is retracting on the order I made last month. They're going to refund me but I haven't seen it yet. Repurchased mag at $12 since I still want Maximum PC. And looking at the reviews it looks like I'm not the only one.
Great format - But I wish I could keep 'em The format is great. Reading on a computer is a breeze and the Newsstand Android app is great. I only wish that I could keep the issues. To be honest... I rarely refer to old issues in the future. Tech moves so fast that a lot of the information becomes irrelevant in under a year. When I do want to keep parts, I just use the Windows Snipping Tool and make JPEGs out of certain pages. You might even print screen it (Prt Scr) into paint or Photoshop. Problem Solved! At $11/year. I cannot complain. Canadians pay a lot for the paper edition.
