Love Wired, Hate Google PLAY For whatever reason my phone shows no option for Subscribe and as a print subscriber to Wired I would appreciate if Google got their ish figured out so I could access my free Digital Subscription. There is no Subscribe option no matter where I look. I have LITERALLY looked everywhere.
Really!? This is what I get for $20? A lifeless PDF..... In order to move to different bookmarks it seemed like it was downloading the whole thing so I just went page by page until I got tired of zooming in and out to read the thing. Huge disappointment from my favorite magazine. It's amazing on the iPad, too bad I don't like iOS
I paid for the digital version but have to pay AGAIN!!! What the F%cking hell Wired?! I follow the instructions... Google Play™ Tap on the Google Play™ Store app on your Android device. Tap on "Newsstand" and search for WIRED. Tap the magazine cover. Tap "Subscribe" and choose "Free for print subscribers." ...BUT THERE IS NO "Free for subscribers" TO SELECT, I want my money back! Once you stood as a cutting edge breath of air stoking the fire of innovation, now your website is terrible and generally the articles are just not the same. Sleeping with Conde Nast has destroyed you, I'm sure Kevin Kelley has weeped for what has been lost.
Updated review - from 1 star to 4 stars Finally! I am a long-time print subscriber who was quite disgusted that I was previously expected to pay again for the Android version when Kindle and iPad users got the digital version included in their print subscription. I left a one star review back in October 2012 because of this and was even prepared to let my print subscription expire as I was so frustrated. I am very happy that the publisher has finally seen sense and allowed existing print subscribers to access a digital version for free on Android device. /// The reason I'm giving four stars rather than five is because back issues (prior to digital registration) are not available for free. I've been a print subscriber for many years, so it'd be nice to be able to re-read older Wired magazines I've already bought in print. Current magazines can be pinned and saved indefinitely though, (space allowing on your device). /// To those who are print subscribers and complaining in these reviews that they are being charged for digital access: You are doing it wrong! Subscribe from your device rather than the web and you will see a new option allowing you to set-up with your Wired account number and you will not be charged.
Nothing special, but better than nothing Living in Canada it is nice to have a fairly priced edition that I can get as the paper version is 4x more than if you live in the US. But it is fairly bland. You get a full scan and a text version. The scan is terrible and hard to read, the text version works fairly well and skips over all the ads. Basically it is what I wanted as I am mostly interested in the longer articles. I do wish I could read them on my kindle though, as reading on a tablet is not the best experience for longer articles.
Subscriber since 6th ed... Not any more! I've cancelled my subscription and will no longer subscribe to a company that is a) obviously biased against Android & b) run by money grubbers. BTW... my father & uncle are following my lead and have cancelled their subscriptions also. Congratulations Wired, you just lost 3 long term clients!
