Will not renew subscription I get print version, but will not pay more for e-version, and because PM thinks I should, when my subscription comes up for renewal, no more PM for me. Hearst Corp. should be ashamed.
ANDROID USERS BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU PURCHASE! I bought this via American Publishers for my daughter's school fundraiser. Only just found out it isn't available for my device, which is an Android device. Upon further inspection I noticed on Hearst's own website they pretty much only list iOS devices as compatible with wording like "Available on the web for your Android tablet or phone" next to the Google Play Store icon (sort of shady way of displaying that if you ask me) I am currently trying to get a refund through American Publishers, I won't be purchasing any Hearst publications again and will make sure I notify others to be wary of spending their money with Hearst as well.
Great Content, Gimicks Break the Experience Love The Content, Hate The Digital Gimicks Loved the print magazine and appreciate what they are trying to do with the digital version, BUT the videos and stacked on-page content is only "cool" when it works. Unfortunately on a brand new Samsung Galaxy Note with plenty of horsepower and a fairly recent Android release it simply breaks far too often. Videos hang or crash the app. The stacked content "buttons" do not work 80% of the time which means there is a lot of content I simply cannot read. Each magazine release has gotten worse as more of the "cool UI features" are added to each new magazine. The UI features only add to the experience when the primary objective of a magazine subscription, accessing new content, works properly. Maybe I will subscribe again in 6 months or a year once they figure out how to publish content that doesn't break.
I've been Ripped Off I should have known better after I had tried the National Geographic magazine using Google subscription service, but I thought maybe it would be different with another magazine. With that thought (wrong!), I've bought a subscription to Popular Mechanics. I haven't even been able to read the 1st month I've bought because it will not load on to my nexus. The newest month has been delivered and, and, and it won't work either. I'm really mad right now about this. How can a multi-billion internet media giant not be able to get something as simple as a magazine reproduction working on their own device and software???
Like the mag but digital edition needs work I was a print subscriber for many years, digital subscriber for the last couple years. The magazine is great but some of the features don't work well at all. Like the new layout but it's still buggy and inconsistent. On pages that have + buttons to reveal more content or a review of another item, the buttons work inconsistently - working for some items in one page but not others. The vertical scroll feature is inconsistent - on some only the text scrolls and on others the entire page scrolls, not to mention the VERY small vertical area (10 lines in many cases) for text on some of these.
Hard to read and error prone I like the magazine, however this interactive magazine is quite hard to read. And I just don't like the layout they chose. An even bigger issue is that half the time I try and open this magazine is just fetches new data repeatedly and fails to open. I have plenty of other Google subscriptions that don't have that issue so I'm not sure of the problem.
Interactive is bad news Tried the trial and am still deciding whether to subscribe... only because the "interactive" features are so clunky. Lots of unexpected behavior like side-scrolling, randomly clickable images, etc. Nothing is consistent, though, so you can't even get used to it. Page turns often don't even work on my Xoom. I love the magazine but just give me a non-interactive version.
