1 The Future Is in Our Hands

Jiro Azuma isn’t your ordinary high schooler. Besides being able to converse with animals, he also happens to be a descendant of ninja and an expert of the traditional art of stealth. But when Jiro’s compassionate instincts lead him to a severely injured cat, his unusual world gets even stranger. Rago the black cat, it turns out, is a supernatural being known as a mononoke, and Jiro has just awakened him from a very long nap. Before long, Jiro is back at home, nursing his new friend to health, but Rago has other ideas. With Jiro asleep, Rago slips away into the darkness with a warning, but is foiled by his clever caretaker who’s ten steps ahead of him. Just as Rago’s fury surprises Jiro, another mononoke steps out of the shadows…
2 The Choice Is Yours

Jiro awakens in a hospital room, confused and with a stabbing headache. Thanks to having fused with Rago, Jiro is now under the strict surveillance of the Bureau of Espionage, an undercover agency responsible for finding and destroying mononoke deemed dangerous to the public. Rago, it turns out, has a long and hostile history with the Bureau. So when Jiro hears about their plan to take him into custody, he flees to his grandfather, Toshimasa, back home. But before Jiro can explain, it’s clear he already knows. Toshimasa has something to say even more surprising than his past.
3 WHAT'S MY NAME?

Now under strict surveillance, Jiro finds himself in the confines of an incognito transport vehicle, and the tension could be cut with a katana. Jiro is being taken to the Bureau, escorted by the no-nonsense Ichika Kishimojin, who makes no attempt to hide her contempt for mononoke. As if things weren’t explosive enough, the three suddenly realize they’re under attack. Ichika investigates, only two discover two allied demonic mononoke ogres eagerly waiting for her. When the deadly duo launches a brutal attack on their target, Jiro begs to be released from his spectral aura-suppressing handcuffs.
4 Two Is Not Enough

Jiro has been pitted against the newest member of Black Torch, a young man by the name of Reiji Kirihara. It turns out Shiba has orchestrated the entire conflict as a sort of lethal aptitude test for Jiro. With Reiji’s deft sword handling skills, and Jiro’s mastery of hand-to-hand combat, the dangerous duel turns into more than a simple test. Each challenger’s fist has a tale to tell.

In a subterranean hold, a monolith towers over Jiro and Reiji. Supposedly, the strange stone is what imprisoned Rago during his extended sleep. Soon the attention shifts to a mononoke who calls himself Koga. And, as it happens, he’s keen on getting his hands on Rago. But even the killing moves of Kirihara-ryu sword fighting and the supernatural power of Rago seem not enough to tip the balance. Up above, Special Operations Division 1 Chief, Kusumi, and her lieutenant, Tokieda, attempt to break Koga’s forcefield while Ichika stands by frustrated, mirroring the sentiment down below. Jiro may’ve managed to unleash a massive attack with Rago, but…
6 Turn Up

Jiro, Ichika, and Reiji have been handed a new trial, this time from a “friendly” mononoke known as Fuyo. Fuyo has created a realm of illusion to train the team’s ability in combating the dark arts. The test? The three must break through the alternate world and return alive. Inside, Reiji comes face to face with his twin brother, whose complicated past quickly ignites a storm of virtuoso blade work. Ichika is forced to confront one her most painful memories—how mononoke transformed her mother forever. Of course, Jiro isn’t getting off easy. A shady, colossal mononoke has swallowed him up whole and taken him to another world of memory, only the memory is Rago’s.
7 3 ON THREE

Mononoke have just committed mass murder, and it's beginning to look more like a strategic string of kills than all-you-can-eat human meat. Lingering at the scene is an ominous blanket of fog, but that doesn't slow down Team Black Torch. Awaiting them are three mononoke, along with a mysterious cloaked man. When Jiro, Ichika, and Reiji rush headlong into the haze, the three come face to face with the gargantuan Kanawa. As Jiro insists on taking monster number one, Ichika and Reiji rush to fend off the other two. It's three on three!
8 Underdog

It turns out the enigmatic swordsman who confronted Reiji is none other than his own flesh and blood. What’s worse, Reiji’s brother, Shinji, has sold his soul to the mononoke. As the brothers swing, slice and parry, Reiji learns more about Shinji’s inner turmoil. The series of repressed traumas has been brewing for years, and now it’s fueling Shinji’s ferocious outburst. But Shinji isn’t the only one with a lot on his mind. Rago realizes his merging with Jiro has come with an unexpected side effect. But just as Rago attempts to break the news to Jiro, Amagi steps in, brandishing a very unsettling grin.

Finally, after falling unconscious, Jiro has awakened, and in a vast warehouse, behind the stone-cold stare of Kusumi from Special Operations Division 1. Jiro is now at the full reach of his spectral powers, and the Division 1 chief is determined to keep him under her thumb. But he’s got one, and only one thing on his mind—finding and taking back Rago. Then, just when Jiro’s new powers surge to uncontrollable heights, Gramps shows up.
10 Deadly Skillz

Jiro has entered unknown territory only to face more unknown beings. Deep in the forest belonging to the nonhuman Ibuki, Jiro meets a mysterious mononoke in the form of a white snake. When Jiro opens up about Rago, an unusual camaraderie blossoms. But the good vibes fade fast. Rago’s awesome spectral energy is roiling inside, and Jiro is feeling shaky. Jiro may not be in top form, but he needs to figure out something quick. The imposing presence towering before him is out for blood and happens to wield an enormous scythe.

Amagi’s dark ambitions have come to light, and they’re not pretty. From being revered as a god, to feeding on living sacrifices, Amagi’s past tells a tale of blood and a dangerous lust for power. Elsewhere, Jiro has returned from the Avidya Forest where little has gone according to plan. One constant, however, remains: Jiro is determined to save Rago and settle the score with Amagi. But there’s more news. A horde of mononoke is on its way. Luckily, Jiro’s grandfather is back and manning the front lines. The battlefield and Amagi await!

A new superpowered Amagi stands before Jiro while, cloaked in a Rago-fueled forcefield, a defiant Jiro awaits. Each smolders with the burning hot impulse to tear his opponent limb from limb. Only, Rago’s feline appearance is deceiving… It turns out the “ordinary” cat is the stuff of mononoke legend–the Black Star of Doom! Swarming in the shadows are more mononoke, eager to exploit Rago’s uniquely immense powers. To fight back against the tide of dark spirits, the undercover Bureau of Espionage is poised to seek and destroy. Of course, everyone has their motives when it comes to Rago’s powers.
