VH1's newest original movie will chronicle the journey of Nikki, David, and Deevee: three friends united by their love of hip-hop. They work to make their big mark in the music industry in the Summer of 1990 in New York City, where the music industry's artists and hustlers intersect in the dance clubs and the street corners of the still crime-ridden city.

Nikki begins her first day as Barry Fouray's new assistant, planning a listening party for rapper Special Ed. Ahm demands his tape back from DeeVee.

At the Ride 95 FM concert, Nikki is tasked with getting rapper D-Rome on stage with Keith Sweat to perform a guest verse. Barry Fouray aims to get face time with label exec Mattie Taylor. Ahm and DeeVee get back into business.

At the New Music Seminar, Nikki tries to sign rapper Imani X (Teyana Taylor) to Barry's new label, but her mother (Kim Wayans) stands in the way. DeeVee competes in a DJ battle. Ahm and his crew retaliate.

Nikki heads down to Philadelphia to save an unstable rapper's tour. Damita interviews Barry Fouray for the Village Voice. Ahm deals with a personal crisis and a tragic event will have repercussions for all our characters.

About this show

It's 1990s New York City at the height of rap's "Golden Age". Nikki lands a job as the assistant to the legendary Barry Fouray. Her best friend DeeVee is working with rapper Ahm. How far will these young people go to rise to the top of the hip-hop world?

Capturing the essence of the early 90's is something that is great & refreshing. It's such a nostalgic era for me, seeing how everything is portrayed from the news to the electronics is awesome. They could work a bit better at getting the NYC slang up to par but they got the fashion on point! Love this story!
