The missing man's pregnant ex-girlfriend explains that she ended her relationship with him after he confessed that he feared the extraterrestrials would return for him and their baby. After a friend at Teddy's alien abductees support group claims that he and Teddy had recently been trailed by two menacing "men in black," it seems the team's only normal lead is from a neighbor who saw Teddy let an agitated man into his apartment the night he disappeared. Meanwhile, Jack handles the awkwardness of displacing Vivian as the team's leader, and his lawyer, Ed Felder (recurring guest star TIMOTHY BUSFIELD), tells him that his estranged wife is planning to use his affair with Samantha to prove he's an unfit parent in their custody battle.

Initially, nanny June (ESPERANZA CATUBIG) is the prime suspect in the baby's disappearance after the child's affluent parents inform the agents that they'd just terminated June for stealing. However, when a caller demands a ransom in exchange for the safe return of both June and the child, the team contemplates who may have kidnapped the pair, while also considering that June could be orchestrating the crime. Emmy Award winner CHAD LOWE ("Life Goes On") guest stars as Lawrence Pierce, the missing infant's father.
5 American Goddess

Season-only
Lynette Shaw, the physically transformed winner of the popular surgical makeover reality show "American Goddess," disappears in the midst of a publicity event. Jack and the team soon learn that although Lynette was transformed from an average-looking restaurant bookkeeper to a stunning celebrity of sorts, she remained the fragile, insecure and lonely person she had always been. The agents attempt to identify and locate a man who left several messages on Lynette's answering machine prior to her disappearance, and they investigate the bitter "American Goddess" contestant whom Lynette inadvertently caused to be disqualified from the show. They also delve into whether or not any unstable fellow patients from the mental ward where Lynette once sought care have resurfaced and consider the possibility that the new beauty may have fallen prey to a charming yet dangerous suitor.
6 Nickel and Dimed (Part 1)
11/4/04
Season-only
The team searches for Colleen McGrath (recurring guest star AUDREY MARIE ANDERSON), a struggling, young, single mother who vanishes after leaving her 3-year-old son in his baby-sitter's care. The detectives create a profile of a loving mother who, despite working two jobs as a housecleaner and a retail-outlet clerk, has been barely able to afford her motel room or the baby-sitter. The team must determine if Colleen has simply run away from her troubles. However, further revelations about Colleen's nervous demeanor on the day of her disappearance, her suspicious windfall the week prior, allegations of illegal activities in her motel room and the disclosure that she had suddenly felt uneasy about cleaning for her current employer, lead the team to question how clean a life she's been living--and if she's been victimized.
7 Nickel and Dimed (Part 2)
11/11/04

In a continued effort to find Colleen McGrath (recurring guest star AUDREY MARIE ANDERSON), a missing young mother who had recently been recruited as a drug mule (someone who swallows pellets of illegal substances that are wrapped in condoms or latex gloves, travels to another country and then delivers the drugs), Samantha goes undercover as a woman with similar grim financial circumstances hoping to be approached by the same drug traffickers. Soon after Samantha takes a job at the retail outlet store where Colleen worked, Danny connects the outlet store's manager to another drug mule who was killed two years earlier. After getting the manager to reveal the identity of his boss, Samantha takes a job at the plant where the drug trafficker is seeking recruits. Once there, Samantha convinces Jack to let her go deeper undercover after she is recruited to be a heroin courier.

9 Trials
11/25/04
Season-only
Jack and the team search for Peter Dusek (JOSEF SOMMER), a wealthy, 72-year-old murder trial juror, whose disappearance could cause a mistrial. Although the agents initially suspect that the defendant may have orchestrated Peter's disappearance as a means of forcing a mistrial, they soon wonder if the juror disappeared of his own volition, since he tried to recuse himself with a note from his cardiologist the day after the defendant threatened a witness in the courtroom. Upon learning that Peter is a multi-millionaire who was in the process of adding someone to his will, the team suspects Peter's resentful adult son, while also considering that the missing man could have been kidnapped by someone seeking a hefty ransom.

12 Penitence
1/13/05
Season-only
While searching for convict James "Mac" MacAvoy (JEREMY DAVIDSON), who disappeared during a prison yard fight, the team attempts to determine whether he's a cunning escapee or the victim of a sinister inside plot. Despite the prison warden's insistence that the missing man escaped with another inmate during a staged fight, Jack and his team reluctantly agree to investigate as a potential missing person case at the urging of Mac's despondent sister, Laura (ANNE RAMSAY - "Mad About You"). Laura steadfastly refuses to believe that her brother, who had been serving time for manslaughter, is a runaway, because he had "found God" and was scheduled to be paroled in two weeks. The investigators also wonder why Mac, a member of an Aryan prison gang, would plan a breakout with a black prisoner.

2/10/05
Season-only
Jack and the team investigate the disappearance of Rosie Diaz (ELIZABETH PEÑA - "Down and Out in Beverly Hills," "La Bamba"), a postal employee. When her truck is found abandoned and emptied of the $12,000 worth of videogames Rosie was delivering, the team wonders whether she is a victim of foul play or a willing participant in the theft. Rosie is initially labeled as a normal, likeable person and devoted foster mother, but doubts arise when the investigators learn that her two foster children were removed from her care after an anonymous tip of abuse. Also, a child-pornography DVD was subsequently found in her home. Meanwhile, Vivian attempts to keep a personal matter a secret from her colleagues, and Martin tells Samantha that he wants to go public with their relationship. TIMOTHY BUSFIELD ("The West Wing") directed the episode.
15 Party Girl
2/17/05
Season-only
Jack and the team investigate the disappearance of Chelsea Prince, a 23-year-old society girl known for her constant partying and headline-grabbing escapades. Her badly beaten limousine driver recounts how the limo was ambushed and Chelsea was taken. The kidnappers create a website poll encouraging people to vote on whether Chelsea should live or die. The team begins its investigation while entertaining the idea that Chelsea may have orchestrated the kidnapping to obtain publicity. The preliminary suspects include the married owner of several popular Manhattan clubs who was enraged when he learned that Chelsea secretly made a sex tape of them together. Also, a disheveled young man had interrupted one of Chelsea's recent book signings, ranting that his sister killed herself because Chelsea ignored the girl's fan letters.
16 Manhunt

Encouraged by Martin's description of the kidnapper, Brian Stone (DYLAN BAKER - "The Elizabeth Smart Story," "Kinsey"), and his vehicle, the team tries to ease Martin's anguish over failing to stop the boy's abduction, even though he jogged by Mike and the kidnapper just moments before the crime occurred. Although Mike's parents don't recognize the man from the sketch, the school's crossing guard reveals that she's seen the kidnapper with Mike after school over the past few months--a fact that is especially disturbing to the child's dumbfounded parents. Meanwhile, Martin is annoyed by Samantha's reluctance to tell their colleagues about their relationship.

She initially appears to be an ordinary churchgoing woman; however, her work history, multiple moves and a conversation with her recently estranged boyfriend soon lead the team to discover Stephanie's surprising secret. The young woman's associate, Rebecca (NATACHA ROI), divulges that Agnes recently sought her professional guidance regarding how to handle a man who was angry with her. Jack, Samantha, Martin and Danny try to determine if he's the same man who burst into one of Agnes' readings and yelled at her. A neighbor reported that he heard Agnes get pushed down the stairs, furthering the theory that Agnes may have known her abductor. Thirteen-year-old Daisy Thorpe (ASHLEY ROSE ORR) goes missing in a small upstate New York town that remains shaken by the unsolved murder of the local cleric's 13-year-old daughter, Amber (MEGAN LUSK), seven years ago. The team tries to determine if the same person is responsible for both crimes. As Martin and Danny work from the office, Jack and Samantha are forced to contend with the town's territorial and ineffective local sheriff, whose lead suspect for both cases is Curtis Horne (JOHN KRASINSKI), the lowlife boyfriend of the murdered girl. The team wonders if the missing Daisy may have gotten too close to the truth of Amber's murder when the agents discover that she recently hounded Reverend Isaac Bryce (RANDY OGLESBY - "Enterprise") to discuss his now-deceased daughter. Daisy was obsessed with and outraged by the fact that Amber's killer had never been found. But Danny's investigation uncovers that Rafi has been seen with a convicted car thief, and his business loan didn't come from a bank. Although Jack explains that Rafi may have legitimate explanations for the suspicious circumstances, Danny braces himself for the very real possibility that his brother may have placed himself in danger.
