The Kominsky Method

Some friendships never get old. The sun isn’t setting yet on the once famous Sandy Kominsky and his longtime agent Norman Newlander. Academy Award® Winners MICHAEL DOUGLAS (Kominsky) and ALAN ARKIN (Newlander) star as two friends tackling life’s inevitable curveballs as they navigate their later years in Los Angeles, a city that values youth and beauty. As they face new relationship, work and health challenges, Sandy and Norman support each other with humor, heart and plenty of sarcasm. The series also stars SARAH BAKER as Mindy and NANCY TRAVIS as Lisa. In the season premiere episode, Sandy has concerns about the man Mindy’s dating. Meanwhile, Norman starts seeing an old flame (special guest star JANE SEYMOUR) and Sandy tries to give his class a dose of truth about the acting life.

Norman and Madelyn get closer as they spend time together in Santa Barbara. When Sandy meets Mindy’s much older boyfriend, Martin (special guest star PAUL REISER), he discovers they have a lot in common.

Mindy’s not thrilled with her dad and boyfriend’s growing friendship. Meanwhile, Norman’s future with Madelyn is threatened by the return of his daughter, Phoebe (recurring guest star LISA EDELSTEIN) fresh from rehab.

Interactions with two women have Sandy contemplating his changing libido as he and Lisa try just being friends. Norman, meanwhile, realizes that his anger toward Phoebe might have cost him his chance with Madelyn.

After Martin has a heart attack, Sandy decides to have a complete physical and discovers a health issue of his own: lung cancer. Not wanting anyone else to know, Sandy turns to Norman to help see him through the upcoming treatment.

Despite Norman’s prodding, Sandy remains reluctant to share his health news with Mindy as he begins treatment for lung cancer and cycles through the stages of grief. Meanwhile, Norman and Madelyn come to an understanding when he finally admits he has an anger problem.

When Sandy faints, it leads to Mindy finding out about his cancer; meanwhile, Norman’s relationship with Phoebe is challenged anew after she comes clean about her past transgressions.

As a result of his recent mood swings, Sandy must deal with Mindy’s new plans for the acting studio; while Norman’s desire to follow a spiritual path is bolstered by the return of his Scientologist grandson, Robbie (guest star HALEY JOEL OSMENT) in the season finale.
