Gentleman Jack is one of the best period dramas, if not THE best period shows to ever air on TV. The clothing, the writing and of course the acting are just phenomenal. Suranne Jones who brings life to Anne Lister is just absolutely amazing in the title role. Sophie Rundle is equally amazing as Ann Walker. Gemma Whelan, Gemma Jones and Timothy West along with the rest of the cast are also amazing portraying life in 1830s Halifax, England. I definitely recommend seeing this show beginning to end

Anne Lister was no social justice hero. She was very much "upper crust" and wholeheartedly supported the decepit British class system. She was perfectly happy to benefit off the labor of ill-treated working class people. I wouldn't call her some kind of feminist icon.
