Season 3 episodes (18)

1 Bad to the Drone
7/29/08
Carter (Colin Ferguson) is concerned when Zoe (Jordan Hinson) takes a part-time job at Café Diem but bigger worries await. Henry Deacon (Joe Morton) may face a long jail term for the breach of security that saved Kevin. Nathan Stark (Ed Quinn) proposes to Allison Blake (Salli Richardson-Whitfield). Zane Donovan (Niall Matter), Fargo (Neil Grayston) and Larry (Christopher Jacot) are preparing for an anti-missile test and the Department of Defense sends in Eva Thorne (Frances Fisher), a ruthless corporate fixer, to conduct a performance review of Global.
2 What About Bob?
8/5/08
Nathan Stark (Ed Quinn) and Allison Blake (Salli Richardson-Whitfield), annoyed by Eva Thorne's (Frances Fisher) budget cuts, are baffled when they see the costly new lab she has created for Zane Donovan (Niall Matter) until she explains that corporate sponsorships will cover the set-up and marketable discoveries will make it profitable. Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson) is visiting Henry (Joe Morton) when he gets an urgent call from Allison. A scientist has gone missing - from a sealed, experimental biosphere which has been isolated in an artificially created and maintained underground ecosystem for 11 years.
3 Best in Faux
8/12/08
Carter (Colin Ferguson) is proud that Zoe (Jordan Hinson) has been invited into the accelerated physics program. Zoe fears she will have no life but physics. Zoe is not the only one feeling pressured. The annual dog show is coming up and, as Jo Lupo (Erica Cerra) tells Carter, competition is ruthless. The dogs are biomimetic and the prize goes to the inventor who can build the most life-like entry. Carol Taylor's (Gabrielle Rose) Fifi was Best in Show for the last two years. She wants a third win but faces serious competition from Dr. Anne Young (Lexa Doig) and Thunder. When the dogs meet, Fifi falls apart -- literally. Surprisingly, Eva Thorne wants Carter to investigate this mishap. While Jo and Carter investigate a possible lab break-in, the building shakes violently. Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) tells Carter an earthquake in Eureka is virtually impossible.
4 I Do Over
8/19/08
Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) is getting married today and the morning does not go well for Carter (Colin Ferguson). His shower is cold; he cuts himself shaving and spills ketchup on his uniform. Next, he faces the unexpected arrival of Lexi (Ever Carradine), his free-spirited younger sister and her two cats. Carter heads to Global Dynamics where Allison needs help informing more than a dozen employees that they are being laid off. As Carter deals with one of them, Stark (Ed Quinn) and Fargo (Neil Grayston) arrive to supervise the delivery of a powerful new atomic clock. It makes the next employee on Thorne's lay-off list, Leroy Weinbrenner (Nicholas Carella) redundant.
5 Show Me the Mummy!
8/26/08
Eva Thorne (Frances Fisher) brings fame-seeking archeologist Sebastian Marx (Zac Santiago) and an Egyptian mummy to Global. GD's Egyptologist, Dr. Wilding (Adrian Hough), tries to prevent Marx from opening the tomb but Thorne, anticipating huge profits, is determined and with a metasomatic ray to protect the tomb's environment, Marx and Thorne press on.
6 Phased and Confused
9/9/08
Carter (Colin Ferguson) accuses Lexi (Ever Carradine) of being irresponsible when she encourages Zoe (Jordan Hinson) to skip school and attend a yoga retreat. Zoe, in turn, is miffed that her father is running her life. Carter's annoyance extends to Lexi's friendship with Chuck (Mark Hildreth), Eureka's radical recycling manager, and their "we are saving the world" superiority.
7 Here Come the Suns
9/16/08
The race is on to find a new mayor. Thorne (Frances Fisher) endorses Dr. Herrera (Dean Marshall); Fargo (Neil Grayston) is backing Vincent (Chris Gauthier); and Zoe (Jordan Hinson) is campaigning for Lucas (Vanya Asher). Unfortunately, Zoe's political activism leads her to abandon her science project partner, Kylie (Margot Berner), with unexpected results.
8 From Fear to Eternity
9/23/08
Trust is becoming a rare commodity in Eureka. Jo (Erica Cerra) is unsure of her relationship with Zane (Niall Matter) while Carter (Colin Ferguson) and Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) wonder why Eva Thorne (Frances Fisher) is so secretive about the underground bunker. The bodies that were found there are to be shipped out, by Thorne's orders, before Henry (Joe Morton) can examine them and Thorne has ordered Dr. Hendricks (David Richmond-Peck) to use his mysterious security system to defend the entire area.
9 Welcome Back, Carter
7/10/09
After firing Sheriff Carter (Colin Ferguson), General Mansfield (Barclay Hope) adds insult to injury by replacing him with "Sheriff Andy" (Ty Olsson) the latest and greatest in robot technology. Mansfield's actions are too much for Jo Lupo (Erica Cerra), who turns in her badge. While Carter waits to hear if the Department of Homeland Security will hire him, everyone else struggles with losing him. Zoe (Jordan Hinson) is distraught and S.A.R.A.H. is beside herself, but Lexi (Ever Carradine), planning a near weightless birth in Dr. Fielding's (Kevin James) tensor field generator, firmly believes there are forces that will keep Carter in Eureka.
10 Your Face or Mine?
7/17/09
Deputy Jo Lupo (Erica Cerra) has just passed the bi-annual D.O.D. re-certification test run by Dr. Bella Pagani (Julia Arkos) with a perfect score and now it's Sheriff Carter's (Colin Ferguson) turn. Grudgingly, Carter enters the isolation chamber, leaving Jo in charge of the office, the town and Zoe (Jordan Hinson). The ensuing 48 hours will test his fortitude and ingenuity - and will be a serious test for Jo, too.
11 Insane in the P-Brane
7/24/09
A series of mysterious events takes place after Dr. Drechmeyer (Brendan Beiser) is contacted by his late mother, a famed clairvoyant. He begins to think that the readings on his new energy-measuring device indicate the presence of ghosts. His lab partner and ex-wife, Mary-Beth Curtis (Chelah Horsdal), fears his obsession will cost them their funding, but something strange is happening. Carter (Colin Ferguson) finds a car parked in the middle of the road, but its driver - the spirited and beautiful new arrival, Dr. Tess Fontana (Jaime Ray Newman) denies leaving it there - and she leaves Carter annoyed, yet intrigued.
12 It's Not Easy Being Green
7/31/09
Lexi has it right: In Eureka, "stuff happens." This time the stuff happens while Fargo (Neil Grayston), Lucas (Vanya Asher) and "The Cleaner" (and bowling champ) Big Ed Fowler (John Desantis), prepare their team for the bi-annual bowling competition against hated rival Toby Bismark (Sean Owen Roberts) and his team from Area 51. Creative enhancement of odds (i.e. cheating) is all part of the game. But cheaters never prosper. And the Eureka team members literally find themselves turning green with envy when they're dosed with gamma radiation.
13 If You Build It...
8/7/09
The day starts innocently enough as Zoe (Jordan Hinson) shows Carter (Colin Ferguson) how Eureka's new Smart Asphalt can control her car. Later, an abrupt rocket explosion sends Carter to GD where he finds Tess (Jaime Ray Newman) confronting the culprit, Dr. Wyman (Eric Hempsall). Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) defends Wyman who is preparing to defend Eureka from the unidentified signal that is fast approaching Earth.
14 Ship Happens
8/14/09
Henry (Joe Morton) is stunned when his unmanned exploration ship opens and someone falls out. It looks like Kim (Tamlyn Tomita) but she died two years ago. They take her to GD for observation and realize that "Kim" is an organic computer, created by the original computer's self-preservation programming, designed by Kim and Henry. Tess (Jaime Ray Newman) wants to analyze the data the ship has gathered during its 20-year journey, but Zane (Niall Matter) says the on-board computer was fried; nothing is left. The "Kim-puter" tells them that she is what is left and begins writing astonishing formulas on the walls of her observation room. This new Kim may contain the secrets of the universe.
15 Shower the People
8/21/09
Doctors Monroe (Jennifer Spence), Draper (Stefanie Samuels) and GD's Infant Development experts compete viciously for funding and favor at Allison's baby shower. Dr. Monroe's new baby monitor puts the mother into biorhythmic sync with her child; Draper's diapers absorb vast amounts of liquid and Bell's (Meredith McGeachie) self-sanitizing bottles compress fluids for purity and efficiency.
16 You Don't Know Jack
8/28/09
Memories define us and Eureka has some doozies. Tess (Jaime Ray Newman) designs "Storycatchers" to capture Eurekans' most important memories for a time capsule, the "Story Nest." While she persuades people at Café Diem to participate, Carter (Colin Ferguson) meets a very pregnant Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) at Global for birthing class. But the facility is about to undergo Sonic Cleaning and they must be sure everyone leaves the building. Carter and Allison find a confused Dr. Bubay (Andrew Cownden) sitting in his lab. He has no recollection of his project, or of his lab partner, Dr. Ashe (Jillian Fargey). When they find Dr. Ashe, she cannot remember Bubay, either. Carter notices a blinking Storycatcher in Ashe's pocket. Is there a connection?
17 Have an Ice Day!
9/11/09
Change is in the air as Tess Fontana (Jaime Ray Newman) picks up the reins at Global, leaving little time to spend with Carter (Colin Ferguson). Zoe (Jordan Hinson), inspired by helping deliver Allison's baby, takes a Eureka-fied aptitude test to help guide her choice to pursue medicine - and is told that she should pursue robotics. Zoe's disappointed, but Lucas (Vanya Asher) is thrilled. Would that have anything to do with him wanting her to join him at M.I.T.?
18 What Goes Around, Comes Around
9/18/09
Change is hard; and Carter (Colin Ferguson) is about to get more than he bargained for. Just as his life seems to be going smoothly, Zoe (Jordan Hinson) announces her acceptance into an early enrollment program for pre-med at Harvard. Neither Carter nor Lucas (Vanya Asher) saw that coming. Carter tries his best to appear thrilled for Zoe while Lucas buries himself in his work with Henry (Joe Morgan). While Carter is reeling from the news, new girlfriend Tess (Jaime Ray Newman) reveals that she's contemplating a job offer that will start right after Allison returns - and it's in Australia.

About this show

For years, the government has been relocating the world's geniuses (and their families) to the picturesque Pacific Northwest town of Eureka, where daily life straddles the line between unprecedented innovation and total chaos. U.S. Marshal Jack Carter finds this out firsthand when he wrecks his car and becomes stranded there. After the town's eccentric inhabitants unleash a scientific creation still unknown to the outside world, Carter steps in to restore order and consequently is let in on one of our country's best-kept secrets. From unrequited love to professional jealousy, from addiction to depression, the problems of Eureka's townsfolk grow from the myriad of life's everyday challenges. But with the population's unique talents, troubled psyches and limitless resources, these small-town concerns have a way of becoming big-time problems. It is at that intersection, where human frailty and super-science collide, that Eureka begins.

I miss this show so much. It was one of those fun, good-spirited stories with a mix of SciFi and intriguing characters. Not filled with gore, sex, horror or the usual cynical content that passes for popular in today's culture. This is family-friendly humorous adventure akin to Doctor Who. The characters included Jack Carter, the well-meaning doofus sheriff who managed to pull this town of geniuses together and keep them from accidentally destroying the world. The show lasted only 5 full seasons (actually 7 since Seasons 4 & 5 where split over two years each) before falling victim to SyFy's killer cancellation curse. Season 1 established the main characters. Seasons 2 & 3 played up various relationship and Big Bad triangles, perhaps even losing it's way a bit. But Season 4 reimagined the main cast with a clever time shift and brought a direction to the series that lasted until it's very end. Unlike other shows that ended early, you do get closure (a much fought for finale episode) yet feel you were brought along for a fun ride. As it is I still miss Jack, Alison, Henry, Grace, Jo, Zane, Fargo, Holly, Vincent, Zoe, Kevin, Jenna and Baby Carter. I wish Netflix would pick it up again.

Eureka! I randomly chose this show to 'Binge Watch' as I recover from Knee reconstruction Surgery, and I got hooked. (*Note: Mini spoiler) While 'US Ranger' was transporting a 'Teen' Prisoner while driving in bad weather avoiding falling branches etc, all of a sudden, they are blinded by a bright light in the opposite direction, A vehicle mirroring their exact weaving in the Road only they are able to straighten up in time for the Prisoner to look in the other vehicle, only to see...HER FACE!

Eureka isn't usually as good as I remember it being. The intro gives it away, really- there are a lot of fantastical, sci-fi things happening, but it tends to overpower interesting character interactions (It's a little difficult to have meaningful dialogue when "Oh no something terrible is happening again") The acting is good though, and the later seasons are better at pretty much everything. Watch if you want to see good, solid sci-fi problem solving, because that's most of Eureka. If you do decide to watch, you can probably skip the first (and maybe second) season, everything you need is given through exposition or can be inferred from context.
