The past year has brought unexpected change to the Heartland family. While Amy deals with a major upheaval in her life, Lou copes with the reality of being mayor of Hudson. Meanwhile, with Quinn's encouragement, Georgie decides to revisit her dream of the Olympics. And on a much needed getaway to the fishing cabin, Amy and Jack find a group of dehydrated wildies trapped by fallen trees. Desperately working to free the horses, Jack once again becomes Amy's rock and gives her the strength to look to her future.

Jade's step-sister, Parker comes to stay at Heartland with her new horse Mickey. While helping Parker form a connection with her horse, Amy is forced to face a difficult truth. Meanwhile, Lou faces harsh criticism as mayor, and in an attempt to impress Jack and Tim, Quinn joins them on a cattle drive-- which brings up difficult memories for Jack.

Amy grudgingly helps Ty's mother Lily with a traumatized racehorse and in doing so they come to terms with a misunderstanding that threatens their relationship. In the hopes of fulfilling one of her election promises, Lou promotes Hudson as a 'must see' tourist destination in an interview with a well known travel blogger, but the resulting publicity backfires. Meanwhile, eco-warrior Parker encourages a very reluctant Jack to install solar panels at Heartland.

Disaster strikes Hudson when a train derails and causes an explosion that threatens the town and the surrounding area. A wild fire quickly spreads toward the rodeo grounds and Amy rushes to save the abandoned horses there. Meanwhile, Lou's leadership is put to the test as she tries to evacuate the town before a second train car full of lethal gas explodes. And with time running out, Jack frantically searches the woods for a missing Parker and her horse, Mickey.

The wild, black stallion that Amy rehomed from Will's ranch is brutally forced out of the herd by the new leader, Caz, leaving Amy to track down the injured horse and nurse him back to health. Meanwhile, Tim and Jack discover a hidden baseball diamond on Sam Langston's property, but Sam refuses to let them use it for a charity game. And Jessica Cook, Lou's old mentor from New York arrives at the dude ranch, stirring up old wounds for Lou, and new feelings for Tim.

When a group of wild horses need new homes, Amy must get back to her Miracle Girl roots and host her first horse clinic in over a year. Meanwhile, Jack and Lisa enjoy a night in the city courtesy of Garland Foods. But while Lisa expects romance, Jack is busy with business. Peter and new father Caleb babysit the kids while Lou and Amy have a much-needed night of sisterly bonding. And Tim is surprised to find some unexpected common ground with Jessica.

Tim seeks out help from an unlikely person when he finds himself competing in a polo match. Meanwhile, Lou has mounting doubts and feelings of deja vu as she plans her 'second time around' big wedding, but when Georgie and Quinn pay a surprise visit, she finds a welcome distraction hidden in Quinn's luggage. And as Amy gets Lyndy prepared to ride a full-sized horse, Jack has concerns.

Caleb finds a memento from the past that he thinks will have special meaning for Amy. But surprisingly, it's Jack who has some mixed emotions stirred up by the gift. Caleb has his own inner turmoil to deal with as he tries to navigate the dangerous world of rodeo as a new father. Meanwhile, Tim pushes a skeptical Jessica to seek the true beauty of rodeo through the lens of a camera.

Quinn's wealthy father Clyde arrives at Heartland with a life-changing proposition for both Amy and his son, and Georgie finds her relationship with Quinn tested by his presence. Meanwhile, Parker asks Amy to find a new owner for her horse, while Tim puts a lot of effort into a grand gift for Jessica. And Mitch pulls out all the stops for Katie's birthday party.

Amy attempts to gentle a challenging wild horse to help a friend of Clint's who wants to set up an equine therapy centre for at-risk youth. She also revives a dream to rebuild the jumping course in the middle of the woods that she and Spartan practiced on so many years ago. And when Lou learns that Peter won't attend her upcoming wedding she is surprised by her emotional reaction, and is forced to face a realization about their relationship. Meanwhile, Georgie takes the next step toward the Olympics, while Jessica's unexpected return prompts Tim to consider a change of scenery.
