I'm a massive Sherlock Holmes fan: From the original canon, through the radio and black and white film productions of the Rathborne / Bruce period right up to "Sherlock" and "Elementary". To me, the production of Sherlock seriously lets it down. The script writing is good, the plots are clever with smartly placed nods towards the previous Sherlock Holmes works, and the acting is good - but the whole post production process completely destroys the series for me. Nowhere is this more obvious than by watching the two different versions of the pilot which were filmed - they're identical in terms of scripting, but the origional unaired version (on the Season 1 DVD) carries the character of Holmes far better - There's none of the camera darting all over the place with ridiculous facts and numbers spashed on top of the scene, Sherlock just figures stuff out. Conan Doyle's Sherlock is a smart guy who these days we'd describe as "on the spectrum" - he grafts hard, focuses on things, and figures stuff out. I think the production of "Sherlock" (especially post production) completely destroys the characterization. I find "Elementary" far truer to Holmes' true character.

Just as "Elementary" is an insult to the great writing of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, "Sherlock" would have delighted him. Elementary's politically correct garbage is a stench of rotting fish in comparison to Sherlock ONLY thing that irritated me was the queers and lesbians (and some women for some weird and repulsive reason) kept a homosexual fascination about Sherlock and Watson which got steadily more repulsive as the series went on. The WRITERS even had to make it blatantly clear they were NOT gay - and one of them (Gattiss) IS gay

They found the perfect actors for Sherlock, Watson, Mycroft, Molly, Mrs Hudson & Moriarty in my opinion. But I don't believe they had the best writers. The writers seem to have genuinely run out of clever ideas. I was never a fan of Watson's wife. It was a mistake to build her up. She's ruined 2 series of Sherlock for me. Even after being killed off she came back to haunt us. So much time wasted on her. Her character should've been explored in a spin off, not here.
