1 For Every Action...
9/13/04
World-renowned neurosurgeon and single father to preteen Delia and teenage Ephram, Dr. Andrew Brown, came to Everwood, Colorado, to start over. He runs a free clinic with Edna Harper as his nurse and office manager. His Colleague, Edna's son, Dr. Harold Abbott, forbade his wife, Rose, and teenage kids, Amy and Bright, from having anything to do with the Browns. However, Ephram and Amy start dating. Ephram returns home from a summer program at Juilliard, full of memories of school and Amy's visit to Manhattan. Meanwhile, Dr. Brown copes with a disturbing letter from Delia's former baby-sitter, who dated Ephram briefly, the young woman's secret, and the fact that he persuaded her to move away.

Ephram has a letter of his own, and when Amy finally demands an explanation he makes a tough realization about his future. Bright reluctantly prepares for his freshman year at community college.

Dr. Abbott rents his former office space to California transplant Jake Hartman.
2 ...There Is a Reaction
9/20/04
At her father's suggestion, a heartbroken Amy is determined to make the most of her senior year in the wake of Ephram returning from New York and telling her that piano has to be his number one priority. Dr. Brown contemplates telling Ephram about the pregnancy of Ephram's former girlfriend. Meanwhile, Rose naïvely agrees to help Bright find his true calling after she discovers that he hasn't enrolled for college classes and is in fact leading a life of total leisure. Dr. Jake Hartman (recurring guest star SCOTT WOLF) creates a marketing blitz for his new practice that threatens to push Dr. Abbott over the edge. And Nina takes in her friends' teenage daughter, Hannah (recurring guest star SARAH DREW - "Radio"), and asks Ephram to befriend Hannah.
3 Staking Claim
9/27/04
Ephram regrets promising Nina that he would watch over Hannah (recurring guest star SARAH DREW) at school, especially when Hannah's constant presence interferes with his time alone with Amy. Amy befriends Hannah out of pity, but she soon finds Hannah so refreshing that a real friendship develops. Meanwhile, Dr. Brown tries to ignore the tension between Dr. Abbott and Edna, but Dr. Abbott's attitude forces Edna to quit and go to work for rival doctor Jake (recurring guest star SCOTT WOLF). Dr. Brown treats a 13-year-old patient whose mysterious injuries cause the family physician to suspect the boy's mother, Sara Beck (ELIZABETH MITCHELL), of abuse.
4 The Birds & The Batteries
10/4/04
Andy is uncertain about what to do when Delia naïvely stumbles upon Nina's sex toy and starts asking questions. Meanwhile, Ephram attempts to write Amy a love letter to show her the extent of his feelings; Amy undertakes a mission to make her new best friend, Hannah (recurring guest star SARAH DREW), popular; and when Dr. Abbott and Rose question Bright's euphoria over being selected Employee of the Month, they decide it's time for some parental intervention.
5 Sacrifice
10/11/04
Dr. Brown is embarrassed after he picks a fight with Everwood's "patron saint," Amanda Hayes (recurring guest star ANNE HECHE - "Birth," "Ally McBeal"), who, unbeknown to Dr. Brown, has been caring for her profoundly disabled husband for the past five years. Meanwhile, Jake (recurring guest star SCOTT WOLF) surprises Nina by asking her out on a date; Ephram and Bright realize their friendship may have grown too far apart to salvage; and neurotic-as-ever Dr. Abbott struggles to come up with a medical invention after learning that Dr. Brown and Jake have successful inventions of their own.
6 Shoot the Moon
10/25/04
Dr. Brown worries that Ephram is beginning to question himself and his chances of getting into Juilliard after he applies to a college in Colorado as a backup plan. Similarly, Dr. Abbott has concerns of his own when Amy informs him that she's not applying to the school they always dreamed of her attending, Princeton, because it would take her too far away from Ephram. Meanwhile, Dr. Brown jumps headfirst into helping Amanda (recurring guest star ANNE HECHE) and her disabled husband, John (recurring guest star JASON BEGHE), with a new therapy involving music, but it may be too much and too fast for Amanda. And Edna and Irv's marriage hits a rough patch after Irv loses his job, and they contemplate their future together.
7 Best Laid Plans
11/1/04
When Jake (recurring guest star SCOTT WOLF) secretly informs Dr. Brown that Ephram came to him for an STD (sexually transmitted disease) test, Dr. Brown and Dr. Abbott decide the best plan of action is to convince Ephram and Amy to abstain from sex. After Ephram realizes it's no coincidence that he and Amy both had a serious discussion with their fathers on the same day and informs her of his suspicions, Amy feels betrayed that Ephram didn't tell her about the test beforehand. Meanwhile, Nina finally decides it's time to tell Dr. Brown how she feels about him and asks him out to dinner. And Bright invites a love-struck Hannah (recurring guest star SARAH DREW) to go with him to a movie, but the night takes a turn for the worse when Hannah misinterprets Bright's interest.
8 The Tipping Point
11/15/04
Struggling to select the music program for his Juilliard audition tape, Ephram seeks guidance from his music teacher and mentor, Will Cleveland (recurring guest star JAMES EARL JONES), but Ephram faces losing one of the most important relationships in his life after he hurts Will's feelings. Meanwhile, Dr. Brown and Amanda (recurring guest star ANNE HECHE) experience a miraculous breakthrough in their music therapy with Amanda's husband, John (recurring guest star JASON BEGHE), but Dr. Brown quickly begins to question whether or not their celebratory mood is premature. And Bright continues down his unfortunate path of apathy, getting fired from his job--for getting intimate with a waitress in the supply closet--and lying to his parents.
9 The Reflex
11/22/04
Ephram and Amy decide they're ready for sexual intimacy in their relationship and make romantic plans to meet at the Abbotts' cabin, but the enormity of the situation proves too much for the couple to handle. Meanwhile, Dr. Brown and Amanda (recurring guest star ANNE HECHE) play chaperone for Delia and Charlie's (recurring guest star SHANE HABOUCHA) pizza date, but the evening turns out to be more of a date for the two adults, who realize their mutual attraction is wrong. Finally, Nina reevaluates her feelings for Jake (recurring guest star SCOTT WOLF) after he comes to her rescue.
10 Need to Know
11/29/04
Realizing that his feelings for Amanda (recurring guest star ANNE HECHE) are only growing stronger, despite his best efforts to maintain a platonic friendship, Dr. Brown decides it is best to refer her husband's case to Dr. Abbott. Upon hearing news that his ex-girlfriend's band is performing in town, Ephram seeks advice from Bright, signaling a thaw in the boys' chilly relationship. Finally, Amy's curiosity unearths Hannah's (recurring guest star SARAH DREW) family secret.
11 Complex Guilt
1/17/05

This is one of the most thoughtful, influential pieces of television that I have seen in the last fifteen years. While it is not based around action, it tells a compelling story of a doctor caught up in the fast lane of life who moves to a small town in Colorado to start over with his neglected son and daughter after his wife's passing. It strikes so many of the issues that are relevant to everyday life with fantastic acting, photography, plot, setting, ect. This is certainly a great show to watch, and it was sad when it was cancelled during the shift of networks to what is now the CW.

I came late to this show coming across it on a streaming service. I found the overall story line compelling and the various sub plots entertaining with a great mix of characters that kept you wanting more. I have viewed this via streaming and service and on DVD which I recently purchased. However in the reviews of the final episode it mentions a meeting between Amy and Stephanie where Amy tells Stephanie that she intends on telling Ephram how she feels. But this scene is not on the streaming service or DVD versions. Does anyonr know why? This scene would site nicely between the Amy/Hannah discussion on how to tell Ephram and the movie theatre scene where Stephanie/Ephram run into Amy and it would certainly explain the exchange of looks between Amy and Stephanie, can anyone help.

Created by one of the producers of Dawson's Creek, this clever and warming series is great quality TV. I love the interplay among the characters, and the dialogue isn't nearly as verbose as DC. We need more TV like this
