Back on the photo expedition, Sarah and James take shelter in a cave. Suddenly, they hear what they think are the sounds of a polar bear approaching but are relieved to discover that it’s Moose, and on his feet is a big pair of snow shoes – that’s what’s been making the ‘polar bear’ footprints! Unfortunately, their loud laughter causes an avalanche which blocks the cave entrance. Back at the café, a worried Bronwyn and Charlie call Fireman Sam as Sarah and James haven’t returned. Sam and the team use Saturn to find the trapped children and Sarah and James win the photography competition too – the winning entry is a photo of Fireman Sam with a face full of snow – and he looks quite a lot like a polar bear!

Sam and the team arrive and pull the train to safety just as the water tower collapses. The train is safe, but without water it can’t take anyone up the mountain today. Back at the station Elvis is doing his best to teach Radar to present the trophy to the ‘prizewinner’, but Radar isn’t letting go of the trophy that easily. Meanwhile the lighting displays are nearly ready, but Mike has yet to put in the correct fuses for the massive amount of lights that he’s wired in. Unfortunately, neither family realises that the lights aren’t ready to be switched on. As the rivalry reaches its peak, the Jones’ and Prices switch on their lights – both causing a fire. So Fireman Sam and the team have two fires to attend to...

Meanwhile at the fire station, Mike Flood is determined to have a boys’ night to remember, but the only items that are at the boys’ disposal are an onion, a box for a deck of cards and much to Station Officer Steele’s delight, tiddlywinks. Back at Helen’s, the curling tongs have set the cushion alight but without the front door keys, everyone is trapped inside. Penny phones that station for help, interrupting the tiddlywinks tournament. Sam and Elvis come to the rescue and Mandy bravely leads Lily to safety, proving what a great baby-sitter she is!
23 Wheel of Fire
1/1/11
When Bronwyn hears that her dad, Gareth, is putting on this year’s Pontypandy fireworks display, she remembers all the disasters he caused with fireworks when she was a child and sends Charlie along to keep an eye on his preparations. Gareth’s haphazard approach to the firework display is too much for Charlie to keep up with, he manages to space out the roman candles properly and check on the rockets but doesn’t see that Gareth has nailed in the Catherine wheel too tightly on to the door of Bessie’s shed. In the meantime, back at the fire station, Sam is giving Sarah, James, Norman and Mandy some lessons in the firework code. Later at the firework display, James spots the Catherine wheel and tries to warn Gareth that it’s nailed on too tightly. But it’s too late, it’s already lit. The Catherine wheel doesn’t spin and sets Bessie’s shed alight. Sam and the team race to the rescue and put out the fire leaving just enough time for everyone to have a go with a sparkler, safely, before heading home.
24 To Outfox a Fox
1/1/11
When Tom and Moose – the self-titled ‘Wild Men of Pontypandy’ – hear that Mandy and Norman are trying to spot a fox, they volunteer to help them. Unfortunately, they’re not as adept at fox- spotting as they would like to think and it’s not long before the fox has scampered off with Moose’s hat. Tom and Moose are determined to show Mandy and Norman that they really are the ‘Wild Men of Pontypandy’ by spotting the fox, and retrieving Moose’s hat. Meanwhile, Elvis is undergoing his advanced driving test, with Chief Fire Officer Boyce as his examiner, and it’s not going too well – Elvis just can’t get the hang of going ‘slowly and carefully’ enough for Boyce to avoid spilling his cup of tea. Back on the fox trail, Moose and Tom soon find themselves stuck in the fox’s den and they need Fireman Sam to rescue them. Elvis and Boyce arrive in Jupiter to help Sam dig out Tom and Moose; fortunately Elvis stops Boyce from digging too quickly and causing the den to collapse. After Tom and Moose are rescued, Boyce tells Elvis that he’s clearly taken the message of going ‘slowly and carefully’ on board and tells him he’s passed the advanced driving test. Mandy then spots the fox returning Moose’s hat and gets named the ‘Wild Girl of Pontypandy’ - grrrr!
25 Lily Lost and Found
1/1/11
"The Pontypandy residents are having a beach picnic and Penny, Sam, Elvis and Station Officer Steele draw straws to see who will go and who will stay behind. Elvis gets the short straw and remains at the fire station with Radar. He uses the opportunity to try to record one of his songs but no matter how far away Elvis goes, Radar always hears him and starts howling as he begins to sing! Meanwhile on the beach Sarah and James are turning Steele into a sand mermaid, Sam is helping Mrs Chen and Lily is following Norman around and getting in the way of his sandcastle building. Norman eventually manages to shake off Lily, but unbeknownst to Norman, the toddler has followed him and gets herself stranded on a sandbank. Luckily, clever Radar retrieves the emergency message while Elvis is busy trying to record his new song and the sea rescue gets under way. At the beach, everyone calls out for Lily but it’s Radar that hears her cries and leads the team straight to Lily. Sam pulls Lily from the waves much to Mrs Chens’ relief. So it’s back to the picnic where Radar sniffs out some lovely sausages and Norman finds he has more of a soft spot for Lily than he realised.
26 Sky Lanterns
1/1/11
Mrs Chen is taking her class up to the mountains to release some sky lanterns to celebrate Chinese New Year. Norman Price is beside himself; just can’t wait to launch his lantern! After waiting while the class paints their lanterns, then waiting while the lanterns dry, then waiting some more while the whole class heads up to the mountains to release them Norman is beyond impatient! In the meantime Sam, Penny and Elvis are fitting up Bessie so that she can use ‘sticky foam’ in the event of a forest fire. Elvis manages to spray himself and then Sam with foam too in the process but eventually he gets it right. As the team carries out their final tests on the foam, Sam notices that the wind direction has changed and that it might be dangerous to release the sky lanterns now. When the class get the news that they aren’t allowed to release their lanterns, Norman is devastated and ‘accidentally’ releases his lantern. It looks amazing for a few short moments, but then it blows into the surrounding forest, gets caught in a tree and causes a forest fire. Fortunately, Sam and the team race to the rescue on Bessie and they get to try out the sticky foam in a real emergency. With the fire finally out, everyone finally gets the opportunity to release their sky lanterns safely – everyone except Norman, that is!
