Hola! We are an Irish couple (Jane and Brian) living in Spain and learning Spanish. We started Ella Verbs as we were looking for a way to improve our Spanish verbs and make the jump from intermediate to advanced Spanish speakers. We tried many ways to improve our Spanish grammar (books, apps, tutors – you name it, we tried it!), but never found the one that clicked. So we built it!

We aren’t your typical Spanish flashcards or verb trainer app. Our philosophy is “learn, quiz, repeat”. We teach you, then quiz you and then surface content again when you need it most. It’s been proven that quizzing helps with concentration, identifying gaps in knowledge and long term retention (Roediger & Karpicke, 2006). Because it's just the two of us, we personally read and respond to every feedback email and review. So if you have an idea, issue, question or whatever, please get in touch! Your app address a need that I haven't seen in other apps. I'm currently in Spanish at college, and the course materials at my college always rush through or have convoluted lessons. But your app I find is very straightforward and specific and addresses this very common grammar issue which is understanding and being able to produce the tenses. You don't mix memorization of verbs with conjugation for example. It's focused. I will gladly upgrade to Pro.

Ella is an amazing tool for improving your Spanish. The designers understand that busy people don't want to waste time with fluff and that the best way to master conjugations is focused practice and repetition. You have the opportunity to easily choose which verbs and which tenses you want to zero in on. Pronuncation is provided by a native speaker. There is also an option for little vocab quizzes if you just want to improve your verb vocabulary, and who doesn't want to know more verbs?

A lovely, lovely app that is very reasonably priced. As a bilingual learner (someone who grew up hearing lots of Spanish but isn't necessarily fluent), conjugation has really held me back. It's been really tough to commit to sitting down and filling out conjugation tables (and personally, I can't learn conjugation just through conversation). I feel like this app is really going to help me meet my goals and close the gaps I have in my Spanish. Thank you so much!!

What's new

We now accept both forms of the Subjunctive Imperfect and Subjunctive Past Perfect tenses, not just the more popular form! For example, both "hablara" & "hablase" and "hubiera hablado" & "hubiese hablado" are valid answers now for the respective tenses.

This update also includes some more new verbs and a fix for a sporadic issue with gustar (sorry!).
