This book has what I would consider to be a view changing morale, I do think that it the kind of book that if you ignore the first book you would be missing out greatly yet you would still kind of know what the first is about. It may be slightly confusing in the beginning, but by the end Jeanne DuPrau ties up the ropes of the plot, leaving you hanging for the third(The Prophet of Yonwood).

the adventure of Lina and Doon are back ! Lina and Doon have emerged from the underground city to the exciting new world above, and it isn't long before they are followed by the other inhabitants of Ember. The Emberites soon come across a town where they are welcomed, fed, and given places to sleep. But the town's resources are limited and it isn't long before resentment begins to grow between the two groups. When anonymous acts of vandalism push them toward violence, it's up to Lina and Doon to discover who's behind the vandalism and why, before it's too late. the people of sparks explores the effects of conflict and war with a heart warming story that realy makes you feel for the characters. a story that brings tears of joy and anger. with a great cliff hanger at the end this is another must read!

This book kept my interest throughout. I really enjoyed reading how Lina and Doon in turn had such a struggle to understand what we as a whole take for granted. This 2nd book was definitely thought out better than the first, and it had a lot more conflict that made it more interesting and a page turner. It's interesting to read how conflict can play out and how small incidents can blow completely out of proportion.
